Reporting to the SVP, Public Affairs, Partnerships and Chief Strategy Officer, the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) is responsible for overseeing the provision of legal services for CAMH, providing legal advice and guidance, and managing regulatory compliance to ensure that CAMH, its Board of Trustees, and its Officers are in compliance will all applicable laws, supporting ethical decisions and practices. This key role provides legal and strategic advice and oversight for a broad spectrum of Hospital operational matters, including compliance, business/clinical administration, contracts (including support to corporate/commercial and research lawyers), and mental health and other legal proceedings. With expertise in various aspects of the law, including Ontario health law, health research law, and corporate/commercial law, and knowledge of Ontario’s health sector, the CLO advises and works collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team and Hospital leaders to bring issues to the best resolution and advises senior management on all legal matters impacting CAMH. The CLO oversees the legal counsel and the legal support team at CAMH as well as the Risk Office, Emergency Preparedness and Security.

As a well-qualified candidate, you combine seasoned management and leadership skills with extensive legal experience related to the Chief Legal role in a large complex organization, ideally in the health care sector. You possess strong interpersonal skills, and are respected for your collaborative and consultative approach, practical solutions and strategic thinking, energy and enthusiasm, and ability to manage competing priorities. Other valued assets include knowledge of health law, health research law, privacy and data law, procurement law, governance practices and the civil and forensic mental health systems.
