Ewart Angus Homes Incorporated is a charity whose vision is ‘Joyful Living. Every day’, and mission is ‘Creating Joyful Living for people living with dementia’. Our main operation, Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home located in North York, Toronto, is a small not-for-profit retirement home, purpose-built exclusively for people living with dementia. At Cedarhurst, we embody a culture that encourages living the way we all want to live – with joy, love, personal choice and hope. We have long been recognized as a pioneer in specialized dementia care and differentiated ourselves from other homes by evolving from a focus on “care” to creating a “living culture” for those living with dementia and their families. We also operate Angus House a multi-level complex which offers market rent apartments and supportive housing for people living with dementia.

As the “Face of Ewart Angus Homes Inc” and Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has overall responsibility for implementing EAHI’s mission and strategic objectives, ensuring the provision of EAHI’s high standard of care, managing the operations of all facilities and advancing models of care through program development and working with clinical and research partners.  The CEO will have knowledge of and experience in dementia care administration, be a strategic thinker and articulate spokesperson to provide effective leadership of the organization and representation of EAHI within the sector.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will

  • Provide overall thought leadership, direction and delivery of dementia care and family programs, including current residential programs and future innovative programming.
  • Lead managers, all operational employees and service providers in a supportive, organized and inclusive environment that is the foundation for the loving resident culture.
  • Develop positive and high-touch relations with potential families and with existing and past families of residents to provide a supportive and differentiated experience of being at Cedarhurst/EAHI.
  • Responsible for revenues and the bottom line. Plan and sustain consistent and effective financial management, human resources, IT and administration processes.
  • Ensure full occupancy through marketing and nurtured community and medical referral networks and cultivating a resident waiting list and pipeline to sustain programs and revenues.
  • Ensure all physical premises are well kept and present a positive image, and with the help of property management company, deliver upon planned capital investment projects and a safe and secure working and living environment.
  • Provide organizational understanding about the sector and bring strong sector relationships to contribute to strategic planning, funding diversification, fundraising, research initiatives and effective governance with the Board of Directors.
  • With an entrepreneurial approach evolve programs to drive our mission and expand our impact.

Leading by example, the CEO will treat all people fairly, respectfully, and with empathy and dignity. The preferred candidate will command a robust network and have a proven ability to collaborate with a wide range of senior level sector partner leaders, government officials, community leaders, residents and families, Board members and the community at large. They will also bring a minimum of ten years’ experience working in Retirement Homes or Long-Term Care sectors supporting Alzheimer Disease and related dementias, and success at the senior executive level demonstrating ingenuity, growth and impactful results. The new CEO will possess knowledge of relevant care and employment legislation, including a thorough understanding of the Ontario Health Care system, Retirement Homes Act and RHRA, and management of operations and compliance with the Ministry of Labour, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Health and Safety and Canada Revenue Agency. Most importantly, they will lead with a unique combination of an empathetic and supportive touch and a consistent focus on planning, adaptability, and delivery.
