Educating nurses for over 55 years, Memorial University ’s Faculty of Nursing has grown a reputation for excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador, across the country and internationally. The Faculty of Nursing at Memorial University has grown to over 500 students enrolled across a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, along with more than 50 faculty and 30 staff. The Faculty of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) program offers both four-year and accelerated options, currently delivered through a collaborative approach with faculty and staff at six locations throughout the province. Graduate programs include a Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) with practicum and nurse practitioner options, a post-graduate nurse practitioner diploma offered online, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing program delivered on-campus in St. John’s. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), and as a senior member of Memorial’s leadership team, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing is responsible for: academic and administrative leadership; fostering excellence in initiatives in teaching, research, academic and professional service; undergraduate and graduate education; and for leading fundraising, advancement and community engagement. Responsible for managing human, financial and physical infrastructure resources, the Dean will ensure creative and effective allocation of resources in support of the Faculty’s priorities. The Dean will create conditions for students to thrive and will showcase the Faculty as leaders in nursing education and research and as an integral part of the healthcare system. Knowledgeable about nursing education, the Dean will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, government, community, healthcare partners, the regulatory body, and enhance engagement with the nursing profession in the province, nationally, and internationally. As the Faculty’s foremost ambassador, the Dean will advocate for the Faculty in finding innovative and creative solutions to meet strategic priorities and deliver quality nursing education across the province. The Dean is supported by Associate Deans for the undergraduate and graduate programs, the Associate Dean of Research and the Senior Administrative Officer.
The Dean of Nursing candidate will ideally possess: a record of successful leadership and management in a university setting, professional nursing experience and a demonstrated academic record as a clinician, educator, researcher and administrator. The ideal candidate will bring: a visionary leadership style characterized by collaborative, collegial and innovative approaches; a commitment to student and public engagement, success and support; and a strong understanding of the importance of teaching, research and scholarship. The Dean will demonstrate a strong commitment to and demonstrated success in incorporating equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism (EDI-AR) and Indigenization principles in leadership, teaching, and/or scholarship. Island Health is looking for a patient-focused team player to join their team of compassionate and dedicated nurses who provide care to acutely ill patients in our Critical Care units.
Our Intensive Care units are state of the art, and allow our multidisciplinary teams to provide a comprehensive array of intensive care services for complex ventilated medical/surgical patients with multi-system failure. The staffing ratio is 1:1 for ventilated and critically unstable patients. ICU nurses are part of the Code Blue team except for the Cowichan District and West Coast General Hospitals. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and organ donor maintenance is available at the Victoria and Nanaimo Hospitals.
The High Acuity units at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria General Hospital and Nanaimo General Hospital act as intermediate care areas between Adult intensive Care and Inpatient Medicine/surgical units. The HAU provides care for adult patients requiring increased monitoring and resuscitation in a multidisciplinary environment. The unit's staffing includes Intensivist and Critical Care Nurses with specialty education training. The nurse-to-patient ratio in this unit is 1:2.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BC College of Nurses and Midwives).
Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience and or an accredited Critical Care course.
Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support and CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) are assets.

Island Health is looking for a patient-focused team player to join their team of compassionate and dedicated nurses who provide care to acutely ill patients in our Critical Care units.
Our Intensive Care units are state of the art, and allow our multidisciplinary teams to provide a comprehensive array of intensive care services for complex ventilated medical/surgical patients with multi-system failure. The staffing ratio is 1:1 for ventilated and critically unstable patients. ICU nurses are part of the Code Blue team except for the Cowichan District and West Coast General Hospitals. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and organ donor maintenance is available at the Victoria and Nanaimo Hospitals.
The High Acuity units at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria General Hospital and Nanaimo General Hospital act as intermediate care areas between Adult intensive Care and Inpatient Medicine/surgical units. The HAU provides care for adult patients requiring increased monitoring and resuscitation in a multidisciplinary environment. The unit's staffing includes Intensivist and Critical Care Nurses with specialty education training. The nurse-to-patient ratio in this unit is 1:2.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BC College of Nurses and Midwives).
Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience and or an accredited Critical Care course.
Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support and CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) are assets.

The Families in Recovery (FIR) Program is a provincial specialized mental health and substance use perinatal service that provides primary care to antenatal and postpartum women who use substances and to infants exposed to substances in an interdisciplinary approach. This acute care service has 12 beds for women who want to stabilize their substance use and address any pregnancy related concerns and/or withdraw from substance use during pregnancy.
What you’ll do:
Provides direct health care services to clients presenting with a wide variety and complexity of illnesses/diseases including communicable diseases, addictions, mental health and general health issues. Performs physical, addiction and psychiatric assessments, collects specimens, refers clients to the physician for further examination, administers prescribed treatments and medications according to protocols and makes appropriate adjustments.
Observes, monitors, evaluates and documents client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes and performs a variety of health care interventions utilizing nursing skills and medical equipment including therapeutic interventions using a variety of modalities. Initiates and facilitates discharge planning; identifies referrals to other health professionals.
Using the nursing process and BCCNP standards of nursing practice provides care services such as maternal, fetal/newborn/infant assessment and administration of ordered drugs and therapy. Cerates a therapeutic environment by providing teaching and counseling.
Conducts initial and ongoing comprehensive nursing assessments of assigned patients, including ante partum and postpartum women and newborns.
o Closely monitors and documents physical/emotional condition of the mother/fetus throughout all stages of detoxification and stabilization.
o Monitors infants for signs of withdrawal and/or other deviations from the expected norm.
Provides care and support to:
o Chemically dependent women.
o Mother/infant dyads during the early postpartum period, caring for the infant at the bedside (whenever possible), aiding the mother in watching for signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
o Substance exposed babies in the nursery.
o Babies requiring additional observation for reasons of medical instability.
o Babies awaiting placement.
What you bring:
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an Registered Nurse/ Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM)
Two (2) years’ recent experience providing acute or community health nursing care/services to clients who have concurrent psychiatric and/or substance abuse/misuse disorders including one (1) year perinatal and nursery nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

What you’ll do

Reconciliation is an ongoing process and a shared responsibility for all of us. The BC Governments’ unanimous passage of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act was a significant step forward in this journey—one that all health authorities are expected to support as we work in cooperation with Indigenous Peoples to establish a clear and sustainable path to lasting reconciliation. True reconciliation will take time and ongoing commitment to work with Indigenous Peoples as they move toward self-determination. Guiding these efforts Crown agencies must remain focused on creating opportunities that implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Mandate.
