Job Description

Supporting the #4 ranked hospital in the world, University Health Network Foundation (UHNF) raises funds for research, education, and the enhancement of patient care at Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and The Michener Institute of Education that make meaningful and historic health care impacts locally and on the international stage. For the 9th year in a row, UHN was ranked #1 in the list of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals and UHNF has ranked #1 or #2 over the past 5 years amongst Toronto-area peer organizations and has achieved the status of the most cost-effective hospital foundation in Toronto. With the generous support of a community of donors, the Foundation works with UHN leadership, other foundations, and research centres across the city to identify programs and initiatives that need urgent funding and to help UHN pursue the knowledge that makes all our lives better. Notably, this individual will have a highly collaborative relationship with their peer at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation as both organizations play an integral role in supporting UHN and both CEOs are members of the hospital’s Executive team.

UHNF is seeking a new and outstanding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into the future of fundraising. Reporting to the UHNF Board of Directors and working with a team of 120+ staff, the executive leadership team and clinicians at UHN, the donor community, and other external partners, the CEO ensures operational excellence while attracting and retaining the right talent to deliver on its strategic plan. You will drive the completion of the new UHNF brand and leverage it to establish an impactful and lasting presence nationally and globally. Leading and inspiring a culture of engaged, high-performing leaders and staff and bringing exceptional stewardship and stakeholder engagement capabilities to nurture existing donors while broadening the donor base will be top priorities.

This is a compelling opportunity for an individual with an exceptional ability to build and foster deep, meaningful relationships, develop and mentor high performing teams, create strong morale and foster a sense of belonging while communicating an inspired vision and purpose. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and self-starter with a proven track record managing a business with relevant complexity and scope. You bring deep leadership experience defining and driving alignment to a strategic plan and a reputation for creativity, innovation and empowerment within a fundraising environment. Past success and experience with major gifts and fundraising, including understanding of the competitive philanthropic landscape in Toronto, Ontario and across Canada, as well as identifying, engaging and nurturing strategic donors and partnerships to ensure UHNF’s long-term sustainability will be key to success. Healthcare sector experience and a general understanding of the research field would be helpful.
