Position Summary The Director of Facilities Management, Environmental Services, Security and Biomedical Engineering is responsible for the maintenance, plant operations, biomedical, parking and security services of the Hospital buildings and grounds, as well as nay off site buildings and grounds maintained by the Hospital. The Director is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating a preventative maintenance program to ensure safety of our staff, patients and visitors. This position is also plays an important role in the future planning, new construction, and renovations to the Hospital. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Providing leadership to the Facilities Management, Environmental Services Manager Security and Biomedical Engineering departments and encouraging best practices within these areas. Preparing cost estimates on new construction, repairs and maintenance projects. Provides support and strategic oversight to the Manager, Facilities Management and Environmental Services on liaison with consultants (i.e. architectural, mechanical, structural and electrical). Provides support to the Manager, Facilities Management and Environmental Services in the supervision and coordination of contractors on site. Ensuring liaison with other departments and services of the Hospital, for the purpose of facilitating and promoting work of the Hospital. Providing and coordinating training for various members of the department. Ensuring that a professional standard of service is maintained in terms of staff performance and keeping of departmental records. Outlining the status of all major projects currently underway and/or ion the planning phase. Ensuring liaison with external agencies and regulatory bodies (i.e. building department, Fire department, TSSA, etc.). Provides support to the Manager, Facilities Management and Environmental Services in making emergency decisions with respect to failure of Hospital utilities, or other related responsibilities. Analyzing cost and work schedules. Identifying educational needs for the specific areas and assisting in planning and/or teaching programs as necessary. Supporting and working with new staff to ensure that orientation protocol is followed and that the new employee has a “good experience”. This is done in conjunction with the Manager, Facilities Management and Environmental Services. Accepting and acting upon constructive criticism to upgrade abilities, seeking clarification of duties when indicated. Ensuring accountability for emergency planning and space planning committees. Assuming the responsibility of Hospital Fire Chief and as such performing the duties required during the “Code Red” fire alert, in conjunction with the Hospital Deputy Fire chief, until such time as the City of Orillia Fire Department arrives on the site. Arranging and participating in Hospital monthly fire drills, as well as in the Spring fire equipment hands-on demonstration and Winter fire lectures. Organizing, analyzing and delegating responsibilities to other staff members as required. Setting priorities and reorganizing as necessary. Performing redevelopment roles that remain and potential Master/Capital Planning. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Vice President Corporate Services and CFO. Qualifications Education: Minimum college Diploma in a relevant discipline is required. Completion of a five (5) year apprenticeship program in a related trade, or equivalent training and experience is required. Current Professional Engineers of Ontario (PE) license preferred. Experience: Minimum five (5) years’ experience in maintenance or general repairs and/or construction is required. Minimum three (3) years’ experience in Hospital maintenance is required. Competencies: Demonstrated emotional stability, maturity, self-confidence, reliability, dependability and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to sustain pressure of work and flexibility in ordering/re-ordering priorities. Demonstrated strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Demonstrated capability of reading and understanding blueprints, specifications, operation and maintenance manuals. Demonstrated computer literacy. Demonstrated ability to analyze, organize and delegate tasks and direction to staff. Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to mentor and motivate others. Demonstrated ability to comprehend a wide range of technical subjects and coordinate details. Demonstrated ability to administer a preventative maintenance program.
