Job Description

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is a leading healthcare institution in Hamilton, Ontario. SJHH is dedicated to making a significant difference in the lives of its community members by providing integrated health services and internationally recognized programs. The organization operates under the umbrella of the St. Joseph’s Health System, one of the largest healthcare corporations in Canada. Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is a comprehensive healthcare system serving Hamilton, Ontario, and the surrounding regions. HHS operates several hospitals and healthcare facilities, providing a full spectrum of healthcare services. As one of Ontario's most extensive healthcare systems, HHS is committed to excellence in patient care, education, and research.

Together, SJHH and HHS are seeking a City-Wide Chief of Psychiatry. This is an opportunity to step into a role where you can truly make a difference. This position offers the opportunity to lead transformative change in psychiatric care, championing new standards in clinical and academic excellence.

The Position

As City-Wide Chief of Psychiatry, you will lead one of the largest Mental Health and Addictions Programs in the province, championing excellence in patient care, education, and research with a direct impact on shaping the future of psychiatric care across the region. This strategic leadership role involves enhancing integrated mental health service delivery at both SJHH and HHS and, in collaboration with McMaster University, optimizing academic initiatives, and driving innovative research in psychiatry.

You will oversee the integrated psychiatric services across multiple sites, enhancing the synergy between various psychiatric sub-specialties, including adult, pediatric, and forensic psychiatry. You will be responsible for ensuring high standards of care are met consistently, improving patient outcomes through innovative treatment practices, and advancing mental health care quality.

Your role will include championing the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at addressing key challenges such as the integration of addiction services, reducing wait times, and improving care coordination. You will lead efforts to promote measurement-based care, enhance community partnerships, and advocate for mental health at provincial and national levels.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished psychiatrist with a proven track record of leading system-level change and empowering teams while fostering academic excellence and leading innovations in care. You are a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible for licensure, as recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or other certification that is deemed to be equivalent. You have an academic appointment at McMaster University or should be eligible for one.
