Ambulatory Surgical and Diagnostic Centre

Richmond Hill, Ontario

A large-scale, not-for-profit ambulatory health services centre is being established in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with expected opening in early 2025. The centre’s mission is to alleviate pain and improve quality of life for Ontarians, while establishing a new standard of efficient ambulatory care which will enhance efficiency of the public health system. The centre will offer a wide range of same-day surgeries, procedures, diagnostics and clinical services, licensed and funded by government.

The Ambulatory Surgical and Diagnostic Centre seeks a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as Chief Operating & Nursing Officer (CONO), accountable for all facets of the centre’s operations, ensuring exceptional patient care, financial viability, and adherence to regulatory standards. The CONO will provide leadership and direction to staff, and champion and foster a culture of excellence and collaboration. As the CONO of a healthcare startup poised for full operational transition, they must adeptly manage diverse responsibilities, ensure a successful launch, and utilize their expertise in both the clinical and operational domains to achieve the centre’s vision of a thriving and high-quality healthcare organization.

Partnering effectively with the centre’s Executive Committee and Clinical Leadership, the CONO will devise and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for the centre, leveraging benchmarking data and healthcare trends to identify opportunities, address challenges, and ensure alignment with relevant legislation, including Ontario's Bill 60. Representing the centre with the community and professional organizations, the CONO will foster public awareness while forging productive partnerships with vendors, other hospitals, and government entities to facilitate information exchange and collaboration. It is imperative to establish and uphold an inclusive, courteous, and motivating workplace environment; the CONO will achieve this through prominent and optimistic leadership, fostering teamwork, and providing mentorship and professional development.

With over a decade of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations and nursing, preferably within an ambulatory surgical center or public hospital setting, the ideal candidate should have a proven track record of developing and implementing long-term strategic plans for healthcare organizations. The CONO will be a leader who is ambitious, passionate, empathetic, and adept at collaborating across functions. It is essential to have deep operating experience with a robust spectrum of healthcare services offered by the centre (including orthopedics, imaging, and cataract surgery), along with a profound understanding of clinical safety and quality management, regulatory requirements, accreditation stands, and healthcare legislation, is essential. The preferred candidate must have exceptional interpersonal skills and business acumen and will excel in cultivating meaningful relationships. A registered nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, combined with a postgraduate degree in Nursing or healthcare management is required.
