With multiple locations and 1,000 employees and contractors delivering 17 clinical and social services, CHS offers a complete roster of life essential services that include sign language interpreting, mental health counselling, specialized employment services, ASL education; CART (Communication Access Real-Time Translation), digital media captioning, Video Remote Interpreting Platforms, digital employer education and workplace assessment; hearing testing and prescription of hearing aids; counselling in person and in the community; and a complete range of communication devices . CHS has an extensive e-commerce platform, multiple websites and a comprehensive social media presence.  We are Canada’s largest complete hearing healthcare organization, and we are propelled by excellence in technology. 


Based in Toronto and reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Services, the Chief Technology Officer will have the following mandate:

  1. To ensure that CHS is aware of the external evolution of information technology platforms on which CHS currently depends, or will need to adopt in the future, to ensure that CHS is always utilizing industry-leading technology.
  2. To understand CHS’ clients, define and implement the technology architecture and roadmap to support our clients at the provincial and national levels, and in parallel.
  3. To define and implement the equivalent architecture and roadmap for our internal processes.

The successful candidate will be able to connect the dots between the external IT ecosystem, our desired customer experience, and our internal processes.

They will deliver and build a robust technology strategy and roadmap. 

They will lead the organization through the journey to implement this strategy.

The Chief Technology Officer is:

  1. Building/implementing information technology infrastructure (likely a hybrid cloud environment);
  2. Implementing a robust data governance environment, building on a deep understanding of data privacy legislation, etc.;
  3. Technology deployment with a diverse client base, both internal and external.

Key Areas of Accountability:

  1. Work closely with CHS Executive Leadership Team to plan, design, and implement the overall IT strategy. This includes developing technology roadmaps with business case justification and budget proposals.
  2. Determine and develop organization-wide technology plans to meet the short and long-term CHS business objectives.
  3. Build a sustainable technology strategy, including environment, architecture, technology stack, user devices. Layered with appropriate principles of risk management and data governance.
  4. Provide strategic direction, management and support necessary to ensure the reliability, integrity, security, and compliance of all systems.
  5. Ensure IT applications are reliable, secure, cost efficient, and strategically sound, reflecting business needs and best practice in creating value for Canadian Hearing Services and its clients.
  6. Analyze requests and specific business needs presented by business units and then conduct research, recommendations, design, and implementation of technology solutions as per the agreed technology plan.
  7. Develop and oversee implementation of the Disaster Recovery Plans and data archiving strategies based on business requirements.
  8. Develop and manage the budget for technology, IT services, and personnel.


  • You bring 15 + years of Information Technology experience and/or relevant technical education and / or equivalent professional experience.

Success Measures:

Within the first six months the Chief Technology Officer will:

  • Establish a clear vision and path for the information technology operations
  • Design and seek executive alignment to our high-performance team that will deliver our technology vision.
  • Develop a comprehensive, integrated plan that includes all projects/activities within IT’s scope.
  • Initiated/completed key projects working, with external and internal users.
  • Research, design, and implement the appropriate technologies to support client online booking, replace old technology, improve corporate communications, access to information and end-user productivity.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the company’s short-term and long-term business plans.
  • Maximize the IT function to bring the technology team as a contributing member of the Executive Leadership Team.

Occasional travel and attendance to conferences may be required.
