Job Description

Chief Communications Officer
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre

Location: Barrie, ON, Canada

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), located in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, has a long, proud history of caring for the region, tracing its roots back to 1891 when the first Barrie General Hospital opened with just four beds. In 1897 the renamed Royal Victoria Hospital opened and since then the city and the hospital have shared a story of incredible growth and a dynamic vision for the future. In 2012 we opened our $450 million expansion that doubled the size of the building. Today, we are well underway with our ambitious plan to transform healthcare in the region with an integrated two-campus model, including doubling the size of the current facility and developing a new South Campus in Innisfil.

We strive to make RVH the best place to work, practice, volunteer and most importantly, to receive care. Core to RVH’s success is a dedicated, compassionate team of over 4500 highly skilled employees, physicians and volunteers. Team RVH works hard every day, without exception – to ensure we are supporting the health centre’s vision to Make each life better. Together.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Communications Officer plays a critical role in overseeing all communication strategies, partnership development and advocacy to support Royal Victoria Health Centre’s strategic plan. Leading and directing all facets of internal and external communications, brand management, media relations, stakeholder engagement and social media presence, the Chief Communications Officer will lead innovative strategies to guide the organization through its journey to a two-site hospital model and position it for long-term success.

With demonstrated expertise in communications, media relations, issues management and publications, the Chief, Communications Officer will be adept at collaborating effectively with the media, the community, and other key stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate will have a record of accomplishment in senior communications roles, preferably within a health care or complex not-for-profit setting, and will have shown ability to establish strategic communication strategies and execute tactical plans.
