Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, Human Services and Long-Term Care, the Long-Term Care Administrator provides day-to-day leadership and oversight of Glen Stor Dun Lodge, a 132-bed nursing home constructed in 1994 – managing staff, financial matters, and the allocation of operational and capital resources and operations for all departments. The Administrator is a leader and responsible for setting the pace and example in how Glen Stor Dun Lodge will deliver services to the residents of the facility and to the greater local community within Cornwall and SD&G; and will also know how to coach and develop others to a similar standard across the organization.  The ideal person will personify the values of integrity, trust, ethics, and values while being a relentless pursuer of self-development. The Administrator also creates an atmosphere conducive to achieving elevated levels of quality of life and health and safety for both residents and employees, in ensuring the proper execution of the following:

  • Reviewing and determining progressive policies and procedures reflective of best practices and standards within the industry, and inclusive of legislative requirements, to ensure the highest levels of medical, physical, and emotional care for residents and employees.
  • Determining input into the Corporation’s long-term strategic plan from the perspective of long-term care, and then working with the extended team within Glen Stor Dun Lodge to interpret those initiatives into long-term plans and actionable items for implementation.
  • Creating and developing a work climate where mental health, respect for the individual, and self-development are acknowledged as critical success factors across all areas of the organization.
  • Using progressive and advanced collaboration and team-building concepts, seek to build a relationship of mutual trust and respect amongst all residents and staff within the facility.
  • Be the champion for the development and monitoring of the continuous improvement and quality assurance program ensuring proper compliance with legislation and accreditation requirements.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the budget requests for Glen Stor Dun Lodge as part of the larger overall city budget planning process, and then use your project management experience to ensure the effective delivery of these items.
  • Establish effective and efficient administrative practices for the practical delivery of internal policies and processes. 
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with residents, families, City Council, the GSDL Management Committee, the Cornwall and SD&G Shared Services Committee, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, accreditation organizations and other long-term care facilities with a focus on continuous improvement to processes and current service delivery.

 

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in healthcare, social services, or business administration with seven to 10 years of progressive people leadership experience in a similar role in a unionized or non-unionized setting with working knowledge of Lean principles and continuous improvement is an asset.
  • Advanced skillsets in the delivery of win-win problem solving, coaching for development, and providing constructive feedback with an equal understanding of how to use these tools in the coordination of other formal performance instruments as required.
  • Core competencies include the ability to manage and measure work, business acumen, the ability to organize at an overall facility level, the ability to make inclusive decisions with required stakeholders, possessing managerial courage, to be fair and equal in the treatment of team members, and have the ability to minimize negative conflict to build better situations where positive conflict may thrive.
  • Experience progressively working with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, leading a successful accreditation process would be an asset as well as oral and written fluency in both official languages.
