Executive Director – Negotiations & Implementation

The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) advocates for the well-being of our 43,000 plus physicians, medical students, and retired physicians, and the health of Ontarians. The OMA is a membership organization that represents the political, clinical, and economic interests of Ontario physicians.  Practicing physicians, residents, and medical students enrolled in any of the six Ontario faculties of medicine are eligible for OMA membership. The OMA runs programs to encourage healthy living practices and illness prevention.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Strategic Affairs, and working closely with the CEO and leadership of the OMA, the Executive Director, Negotiations & Implementation is responsible for negotiating and implementing physician compensation agreements with the Government of Ontario.  This includes providing direction on optimal strategic approaches to contract negotiations between physicians and the Government, overseeing bilateral committees between the OMA and the Ministry of Health, monitoring and implementing provisions of contracts, and coordinating OMA resources in support of contract negotiations and implementation activities.

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, skills, and attributes:

  • A University Degree in a related field of study (business, health administration, government affairs, labour relations, etc.), complemented by 10+ years’ experience and expertise with economic theory, government legislation, regulations and programs, and negotiation/bargaining.
  • A professional background that could include leadership roles in government, health care, provincial medical associations, labour relations, or business.
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience with government affairs at the provincial level, in addition to knowledge of government decision-making processes.
  • Exceptional leadership presence, with demonstrated ability to build credibility with senior leaders, government officials, and professionals.
  • A strategic mindset, with a talent for seeing the long-range implications of a complex set of priorities and decisions.
