Reporting to the AVP and Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director, Occupational Health & Wellness provides vision, strategic leadership, and management direction. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of comprehensive occupational health programs including medical surveillance, short term disability and accommodation case management and WSIB case management.
The Director will be responsible for development of programs, policies and practices that mitigate risks associated with absences (occupational and non-occupational), proactive education of the organizational community on health and supports timely return to work and accommodation strategies through partnership with units, leaders, and Staff Relations and/or Faculty & Academic Staff Relations. The Director is also responsible for the assessment and management of occupational health and safety risk elements, advising University administrators of the accountability of such health risk, ensuring compliance with applicable occupational health regulations as well as acting as liaison with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health for the University's academic and non-academic staff. The Director will oversee all phases of the occupational health clinical program, responsible for the quality assurance program of the employee health service.
The ideal candidate will be a regulated health professional in occupational health and bring progressively responsible management experience in a public sector human resources environment, coupled with broad knowledge of Occupational Health and Wellness: prevention protocol, occupational exposure, occupational health disability principles and management programs, WSIB claims management principles. Previous experience working as a leader of Health and Wellness programs in a unionized environment is preferred. As a leader, the Director will bring demonstrated successes leading, coaching and motivating teams; ability to work cross functionally within complex organizations; excellent interpersonal skills and superior oral and written communication skills.
