We are currently seeking an experienced and influential financial leader to join our senior management team who operates at both the executive and operational level.

 

Position: Chief Financial Officer 

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Status: Permanent, full-time 

 

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as an integral member of the Casey House and Casey House Foundation Executive team.  The CFO is a leader who is actively involved in the development and advancement of the strategic priorities and operational execution, is accountable for all financial activities and reporting, and is responsible for the following:  

Strategic Direction: 

  • Contributes to the overall direction of Casey House and Casey House Foundation by providing strategic leadership, and functions as an informed and effective member of the senior leadership team.
  • Responsible for the development of corporate-wide policies, objectives and strategies related to financial activities and stewardship of corporate assets.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with a broad range of external stakeholders, including Ontario Health, AIDS Bureau, contractors, funders/donors, financial institutions, and other community and/or healthcare providers.

Finance & Accounting: 

  • Leads the development of the annual operating and capital budgets. Ensures compliance with operating and capital budgets by monitoring actual results, conducting financial projections, and other financial activities as appropriate.
  • Oversees and supports the full range of financial and accounting functions including reporting and analysis, accounting services, budget planning, treasury management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and tax.
  • Accountable for the completeness and accuracy of the financial statements.
  • Provides insightful and proactive analysis to the CEO and Finance Committee.

Governance & Oversight:

  • Accountable for monitoring the financial health of Casey House and Casey House Foundation.
  • Responsible for meeting all regulatory and funding agreement reporting deadlines and managing the annual audit process.
  • Attends Board meetings of both Casey House and Casey House Foundation, and serves as chief resource for the Finance Committee.

Risk Management:

  • Maintains a clear understanding of the scope of risks to the organization, though identification and classification of risk by type.
  • In conjunction with senior leaders, evaluates organizational risks and estimates of the probability of and occurrence for each, as well as an assessment of impact.
  • Periodically reports risk exposures at senior and board levels.

People Leadership:

  • Creates an environment of teamwork, collaboration and excellence by instilling organizational values in everyday work life.
  • Fosters an open culture that promotes regular and timely feedback, coaching and active development.
  • Ensures all employees are engaging in meaningful work with an understanding of how their individual priorities contribute to those of the greater department and corporate objectives.
  • Manages a team of 3 direct reports.
     

Qualifications:

  • Professional accountant (i.e., CPA designation) in good standing.
    Minimum 10+ years’ experience in a senior management or executive role.
  • Experience in the healthcare and/or not-for-profit sector, as well as registered charity experience is required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated strategic and operational leadership, with a proven history of creating, growing, and sustaining a healthy and productive team.
  • Proven ability to create, develop and implement creative financial management strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development, and analysis.
  • Keen strategic thinking, business acumen, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills.
  • Solid executive presence and comfort engaging with external entities (government agencies, funding agencies, etc.).
  • A collaborative and engaging working style rooted in servant leadership, supported by strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Personal values alignment with Casey House’s values, which focus on supporting individuals from a diverse population, including people living with HIV, substance use and mental health.
