Manager, Strategic Communication

About CNO

The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), located in downtown Toronto, is the governing body for over 185,000 registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) in Ontario, Canada. The nursing profession has been self-regulating in Ontario since 1963, a privilege granted to those professions that have shown they can put the interests of the public ahead of their own professional interests. It recognizes that Ontario’s nurses have the knowledge and expertise to regulate themselves as individual practitioners and to regulate their profession in collaboration with members of the public through CNO.

About the Role

As Manager of Strategic Communication, you will play a vital role in supporting and advancing CNO’s Strategic Plan by leveraging your deep and relevant knowledge of current trends in corporate communication to establish and deliver processes and services to support the strategic communications function.

Reporting to the Director, Strategy your key accountabilities will include:

  • Establishing and managing resources and processes to:
    • embed the CNO’s strategic plan and purpose through-out the communications function.
    • pro-actively identify regulatory issues trending in media that are relevant to CNO’s operations and reputation, and may impact the broader public health care system
    • develop and establish appropriate vehicles to convey strategic messaging, aligning with current and emerging practices in communications
    • develop and implement short and long-term plans to address issues, using an integrated approach to develop and convey messaging to target audiences using relevant media platforms
    • working collaboratively within CNO, develop mechanisms to measure the impact of CNO messaging; as necessary, revise communications approach to achieve desired outcomes
    • oversee the creation of content that is clear and concise and suitable for external publication and its intended audience
  • Creation of an effective team structure to deliver the strategic communications function.

 

Qualifications

To be considered for the role of Manager, Strategic Communications, you will have a combination of formal education in journalism or corporate communications and relevant recent work experience delivering and managing a strategic communications function that included responsibilities related to:

    • Stakeholder communications including issues identification and management
    • Media relations
    • Social media content and reach
    • Branding and marketing for a non-profit organization
  • Successful experience working with external vendors to manage business processes including establishing and monitoring services against SLAs

 

Knowledge and Skills

To be successful in the role of Manager, Strategic Communication, you will have:

  • Deep and relevant knowledge about current trends in corporate communications, with specific attention to the use of social media platforms for the purpose of delivering effective messaging and user experience.
  • Superb written and oral communications skills – the ability to present complex information in a simplified manner that is easily understandable for all audiences
  • Superb organizational skills including the ability to establish and apply priorities to balance and manage multiple projects and activities
  • Demonstrated success building constructive and effective relationships with team members and colleagues, collaborating to focus on joint accountability for achieving the organization’s strategic goals
