The Position

The Chief and Medical Director, Medicine (Chief/Medical Director) reports to the Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services as Medical Director and reports to the Chair of MAC/Chief of Staff as Program Chief. With accountability for a budget of approximately $130M, the Chief/Medical Director, together with the Program Directors of Inpatient Medicine, ICU and Critical Care, and Outpatient Medicine & Regional Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Programs, will be responsible for the Medicine Program, a large, high functioning, multi-site, regional program servicing the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network. This is a complex and broad portfolio that encompasses a comprehensive suite of services such as Medicine, Intensive Care, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Respirology, Rheumatology and Regional CKD Program. In addition, the Program collaborates across a vast mix of community partnerships that are local, regional and provincial.

Responsibilities of the Chief/Medical Director include monitoring and ensuring the delivery of excellent and safe care of patients. In this strategic and operational role, the Chief/Medical Director, in partnership with the Program Directors, will ensure an ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centred care by actively promoting and continuing to advance best practices and high-quality services, both within and outside of the Hospital, to deliver improved quality, access and sustainability.

Key leadership priorities for the Chief/Medical Director will be to:

  • Identify, develop and implement key strategic program initiatives that can maximize quality, advance transformative care, and adopt best practices across the continuum of the patient’s
  • Develop the strategy and key deliverables for this Program across all sites to deliver maximum levels of responsiveness and quality to
  • Advance regional partnerships with various partners and stakeholders, striving towards seamless integrated care, program excellence and system innovation.
  • Strengthen collaboration and connectivity across teams, clinical programs and with partner
  • Advance and lead medical education, research and innovation across the Medicine
  • Lead continuous improvements in the Medical Quality of Care and Patient
  • Lead a high-performing team while fostering collaborative engagement, leadership development, and professional staff human resource planning.


You are a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible for licensure, and hold certification in Internal Medicine, or its equivalent, and/or other certification that is deemed to be equivalent, as recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
