POSITION:                             Registered Nurse- Multi-Unit, Home Base Medical / Surgical

UNIT:                                      ED / Medical Surgical

STATUS:                                 Temporary up to Full-time Multi-Unit Hybrid Schedule, HB TBD

START DATE:                       June 21, 2021 – September 12, 2021

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with patients, physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Diploma/Degree from a recognized College/University, BScN preferred
  • Specialized certifications and courses related to area of specialization as required
  • BCLS, ACLS and NRP Certification
  • PALS/ENCP Certification
  • TNCC/ATLS and CTAS Course
  • Basic Cardiac Arrhythmias Certification, Defibrillation Certification
  • 15 Lead ECG Interpretation Certification
  • Palliative Care Education and Maternal Child Course preferred
  • Critical Care Course preferred
  • CNA Gerontology Certification preferred
  • CNA Medical, Surgical, Cardiovascular and / or Emergency Nursing Certification preferred
  • Demonstrated appropriate management of delirium in the acute care / post-acute care setting preferred
  • Two years related nursing experience working in acute, long term care or community setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of Cerner software computer applications information system and related peripheral hardware preferred

POSITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES AND TASKS:

  • Ability to organize, problem solve, critical thinking and decision making.
  • Demonstrated application of role in Code situation (ex. Code Blue).
  • Communicates with patients, families, physicians, staff and community partners.
  • Observing and recording patient behavior. Evaluates patient outcomes.
  • Competent operation of medical equipment.
  • Performing diagnostic tests within scope of practice
  • Safely Administering medications and treatments.

HOURS OF WORK:  Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance was formed on July 1, 2003 as a partnership between Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, paediatric, chronic and rehabilitation bed and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage. Hospital services include:

 

  • Emergency department with 24-hour on-call coverage
  • Rehabilitation department including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology
  • Multiple outpatient specialist clinics held on a regular basis to provide local service
  • Affiliation with London Regional Cancer Centre enabling chemotherapy treatment to be provided locally
  • Many community health related education programs
