Kerry’s Place Autism Services (Kerry’s Place) has been committed to enhancing the quality of life of persons with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) since 1974. Kerry’s Place are leaders in developing and providing evidence-based supports; and by building capacity by sharing their knowledge. As Canada’s largest service provider for children, youth and adults with ASD, Kerry’s Place serves more than 8,000 people with ASD and their families each year, across 9 offices in central, Toronto and eastern Ontario. With the number of individuals with ASD diagnoses growing at an alarming rate each year, the need for more supports and services continues to rise. Through collaborative efforts and a dedicated staff of 1,200 people, Kerry’s Place provides assistance to enable communities to increase their capacity, which has resulted in the growth of services available to people with ASD and their families. The Position

Kerry’s Place is seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Vice President, Human Resources (VP/HR). In this key leadership role, the VP/HR will have the mandate to develop and implement key strategies that will contribute to a high-performance, team-based culture. A key strategic advisor, the VP/HR will provide leadership to a broad range of change initiatives that will effectively position the organization to advance HR best practices and proactively respond to market trends. The VP/HR will participate in creating and sustaining an organization that fosters a highly engaged, performance-oriented workforce whose outcomes are aligned with Kerry’s Place strategic plan and mission. Reporting to the President and CEO, the VP/HR is responsible for providing organizational leadership in developing and executing a human resources strategic plan which supports the overall strategic direction of Kerry’s Place, specifically in the areas recruitment and retention, education and training, performance management, labour relations and employee engagement.

Key leadership initiatives for the new VP/HR will include:

  • Lead strategies that facilitate the achievement of the human resources and organizational goals outlined in Kerry’s Place Strategic Plan, including the creation of a HR Strategic Plan.
  • Leverage HR business metrics and strategies that champion a culture of excellence and action orientation.
  • Champion key organizational initiatives that empower staff engagement and development, build leadership capacity, enhance workplace health, safety, and wellness, and further develop constructive and open labour relations.
  • Develop and implement human resources strategies and processes that support Kerry’s Place’s goals regarding engagement, collaboration, innovation, and workplace excellence.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and counsel to members of the Senior Team and to programs across Kerry’s Place on people-related matters and HR systems, processes, and policies.
  • Continue the development and mentoring of Human Resources staff.

Experience

In addition to a CHRE designation (or equivalent), the successful candidate will have at least 7-10 years of progressive experience in the not-for-profit and/or a similarly complex environment/sector. This is a key strategic role that requires someone who has successfully led and executed a human resources strategy in a complex, unionized environment. The successful candidate will have the transformational ability to guide culture change to continue the development of a successful and progressive people culture. You possess superb interpersonal, communication (oral and written), negotiation and change management skills.
