POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director – Financial Planning & Analysis is a member of the Senior Leadership team and is accountable and responsible for all financial planning & analysis, financial modeling, financial strategy, organizational performance reporting, and the development and implementation of revenue diversification strategies. This role will work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure a financially sound organization with a diversified revenue base that excels in fulfilling its mission.

This role combines strategic and operational accountabilities with the need for strong collaborative leadership. It will appeal to an experienced financial leader who thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment that values, creativity, out of the box thinking and results.

 Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy.  As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Provide comprehensive analysis of financial variables, identify and evaluate issues, and assist functional and clinical leaders in understanding these analyses and issues so they can act accordingly. Develop financial and operational presentations for internal and external stakeholders to KHSC, including the Executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Ownership of the financial planning and analysis function, including financial planning and tracking of operating expenses, headcount reporting, monthly close support, quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting and variance analyses.
  • Lead for creating and maintaining detailed annual budgets and monthly forecasts. The monitoring of financial results and expenditures by using variance analysis, forecasting methodologies and comparison to the fiscal budget. Drive improvements to company financial planning and analysis practices: deeper profit and loss analysis, multi-year forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Support any future debt or equity financing processes through production of forecasts, presentations, and responding to due diligence requests.
  • Continuous quality improvement of areas within the assigned portfolio including monitoring, analyzing trends and developing and implementing remedies.

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Business or Health Administration or recognized equivalent, preferred or minimum of University degree and designation from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada
  • Minimum of 10 years’ related experience required
  • Experience working in a hospital is an asset
  • Strong business acumen with solid experience in business management, financial planning, performance measurement and budgeting functions
  • Exposure to internal control systems in a multi-divisional organization
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, as well as provide credible analysis and business recommendations
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex financial issues to a broad audience
  • Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment while experiencing financial constraints
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills with the ability to create integrated plans, influence outcomes and engage multiple stakeholders
  • Solid experience in project management and special projects
  • Successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search
