Join our health care team as a Registered Nurse (RN). Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) is a 100 in-patient bed accredited facility, located in Yellowknife Northwest Territories (NWT). This is an exciting time to work at Stanton as the hospital is undergoing major redevelopment with a new $350 million facility being built with operations scheduled to transition into the new facility in 2019, for more information on the redevelopment visit www.stantonrenewal.ca. STH is the referral center for approximately 43,000 NWT residents and 5,900 residents from the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. STH provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity. STH maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property, recognizing the health hazards associated with tobacco in the workplace, both to smokers and non-smokers alike. Located within Stanton and reporting directly to the Manager, Medicine & Outpatient Care, the Registered Nurse (RN), Medicine is one of 9 RNs providing culturally sensitive care to residents of the 20 bed Medicine unit consisting of two negative pressure rooms, up to four telemetry beds, one palliative care room and one safe room. Approximately 850 residents will visit this unit each year with an average length of stay of 7 days. During every shift one Registered Nurse, Medicine will act as a Team Leader (Responsibility Nurse) and be accountable for the overall nursing care of all patients within the Unit. Staffing during the day shifts consists of 2 Registered Nurses, Medicine (including the Team Leader) and 2 Licensed Practical Nurses medicine (LPNs); and during the night shifts, there are 2 Registered Nurses, Medicine (including the Team Leader) caring for up to 10 patients each.
In addition, during the day shifts one Unit Clerk and a Housekeeping Aide will be functional team members. Every Registered Nurse, Medicine may be required to act as the Team Leader depending on staff make up and experience of the staff on duty during a particular shift.
The Registered Nurse, Medicine is a member of the nursing team who provides direct nursing care to patients over the age of 16 years, whose conditions range from stable to seriously ill or whose outcomes may be unpredictable. The Registered Nurse, Medicine acts as a patient advocate and facilitates communication between the patient, family and other health care professionals. This will result in a holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching, and relationship development that will best meet the needs of the patient.
This level of knowledge is commonly acquired through the successful completion of a Nursing Degree.
Salary range for the position is $87,263 - $104,208
