Position Summary The Director plays a key role in strategic planning by identifying, researching, implementing and evaluating programs and partnerships with a strong focus on people, culture and organizational wellness in alignment with the hospitals mission, vision, values and strategic plan. The Director is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to a portfolio which includes: Human Resources (HR), Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC). The Director works collaboratively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders to support continuous improvement that will positively impact the experience of our staff (employees, credentialed staff, and volunteers), patients and families. We are looking for a leader that has the ability to view the hospital holistically and can support us in delivering on our vision of ‘Excellent compassionate care...every day.’ This will be accomplished through big ideas that utilize cost-effective, value-driven innovations that push you out of a transactional role into a transformational one. These big ideas are matched with an agile, nimble and out-of-the-box-thinking that will enable our hospital to proactively anticipate future needs. Qualifications Master’s degree preparation in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a healthcare related discipline required or in progress Bachelors degree required. Human Resources Professional Association designation required . Project Management and LEAN Certification considered an asset Member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders considered an asset A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive management experience, specifically related to Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety and Infection Prevention and Control Change Management experience, including quality improvement methodology e.g. LEAN Project Management experience with a proven track record of implementing sustainable changes related to HR, OH and/or IPAC Exceptional breadth of people knowledge as well as exceptional business acumen. Experience working with the public sector preferably in healthcare. Proven track record of facilitating a highly collaborative work environment as well as building and leading high-performing and high functioning teams. Demonstrated experience in leading organizational change and a unique combination of strategic focus, combined with an operational working style. Demonstrated strategic and operational planning abilities and “out of the box” thinking. Demonstrated knowledge of current legislation including: Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Labour Relations Act, Excellent Care of All Act, and the Public Hospital Act. Demonstrated commitment to remaining abreast of legislative changes and ability to lead, mentor, educate others. Demonstrated high level of competence in strategic thinking, project management, business acumen and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to build and foster strong relationships with partners to align and integrate business strategies. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, in situations that require tact, diplomacy and discretion. Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, negotiation, critical thinking, change management, and team building. Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to appropriately delegate. Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring a key department, including the establishment and effective implementation of succession planning, mentoring and employee development processes, Demonstrated ability to act as a cultural change agent Demonstrated advanced computer skills and experience with HRIS. Demonstrated ability to facilitate, coach, mentor and lead individuals/groups to achieve quality outcomes and provide exceptional service. Demonstrating experience and skills in management functions, including hiring, disciplining, developing, evaluating and terminating employees and to educate, support and assist other managers with same. Demonstrated ability to time-manage, prioritize a heavy workload, and multi-task. Highly motivated with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations/challenges.
