Communications Advisor Status: Temporary Full Time (12 months) Posting Number: 2100001690 Location: Oshawa Wage Schedule: $35.805 - $44.745 per hour Program: Communications JOB SUMMARY The Communications Advisor is an integral member of the Strategic Communications team who helps build the hospital's local and provincial reputation as a leader in delivering high quality regional acute care, ambulatory and long-term care services to residents of Durham Region and beyond. Reporting to the Manager, Public Relations and Digital Communications the position supports the execution of Lakeridge Health's communications plan through compelling story telling across all communications platforms. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Communications Advisor helps coordinate and support: * Media relations - cultivating media contacts, pitching stories, key message development spokesperson preparation and daily media scans. * Social Media - content development, community/followership engagement, provide ongoing evaluation and performance-related data related to various campaigns. * Community development - attendance at community events, engaging in social media through the organization's corporate accounts etc. * Web communications - content development, site updates, adherence to AODA compliance * Issues management - proactively identifying issues, working with partners to mitigate risks and establish effective communications plans. Will include limited on-call responsibilities. * Change management communications - including creating campaigns and tailoring messages to targeted audiences etc. * Stakeholder engagement - including government relations, managing relationships with key community partners, engaging with patient and family representatives throughout the hospital etc. * Communication planning - supporting all planning activities related to an annual communications strategy for Lakeridge Health and implement specific components of that strategy. * Event planning - including logistics, creating content, speechwriting, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: * Graduate of a relevant post-secondary program and/or at least five (5) years of related communications experience; * Excellent written and verbal communications, including ability to integrate strategic key messages and to appropriately tailor messages for identified target audiences; * Proven ability to respond to requests from media, including developing key messages, media materials, identifying and coaching spokespersons, acting as a spokesperson etc.; * Ability to work with internal clients with a diverse range of needs and communications expertise; * Ability to thrive in a team-centred environment; * Excellent problem-solving, facilitation and negotiation skills including the ability to think strategically and critically; * Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications. Experience with creative/media/graphic design applications such as Adobe suite of products and Canva an asset; * Awareness of the communities serviced by Lakeridge Health; * Experience in a health care or other large complex work environments an asset; * Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills including the ability to fully utilize communication tools; * Satisfactory performance record and good attendance record with the capability of maintaining the same standard.
