Unity Health, St. Joseph’s Health Centre University of Toronto Applications are invited for the position of Chief and Medical Program Director (MPD), Department of Emergency Medicine, at Unity Health Toronto, St. Joseph’s Health Centre (SJHC). St. Joseph’s is a fully accredited community teaching hospital within the Unity Health Toronto network. Unity Health Toronto is Canada’s largest Catholic Academic Health Sciences System and is affiliated with the University of Toronto. Employing approximately 2500 staff, along with 400 Credentialed Staff physicians serving approximately 400 beds, St. Joseph’s provides primary, secondary and selected tertiary services to the West Toronto region. The Emergency Department, at approximately 100,000 ER visits annually is one of the busiest in the province and provides 24-hour a day emergency care, including major trauma services. It is supported by strong clinical programs in Surgery, Oncology, Mental Health, Women’s and Children’s Health, Medicine and core Diagnostics and Therapeutics. The Department seeks an outstanding clinical individual with proven strong administrative and leadership skills, in particular with experience and knowledge regarding recruitment and support of community emergency medicine physicians. The Chief and MPD will be responsible for clinical and academic matters within the Department and will foster excellence in patient care services. They will ensure the growth of the clinical and educational programs and will foster collaborations with the site leadership within Unity Health Toronto, at St. Michael’s and Providence Health, along with the Keenan Research Centre, the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, and external partners. The successful candidate must hold an MD degree and must be Certified or Examination Eligible in Emergency Medicine, eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario, and eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020, or as mutually agreed upon. It is expected that the successful candidate will work at St. Joseph’s Health Centre clinically at a 0.5FTE or greater. The anticipated time commitment will be two days per week for this administrative role. The salary for the administrative role is commensurate with this time commitment.
