As the largest service delivery organization in Manitoba’s health system, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is responsible for coordinating and delivering health services within the Winnipeg and Churchill geographic areas (excluding Health Sciences Centre which is now part of Shared Health). The WRHA directly manages or contracts with other service providers to offer a wide range of health services, including five hospitals, three health centres and dozens of community and long-term care services and facilities. This work relies on a dedicated team of thousands of health-care professionals, support staff and volunteers to achieve the mission and mandate. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will represent the WRHA, its vision, mission, and values in all professional relationships and activities with all levels of the organization and the public. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Executive Management Team, the CMO will be involved in strategic planning and decision making within the clinical services portfolio that includes acute, community and long-term care. The incumbent will provide organizational leadership on both strategic and operational issues, promoting the philosophy and vision of a high performing Service Delivery Organization in the context of Health Care transformation. The CMO will oversee the management of specific clinical services delivered in the WRHA sites while supporting the integration of service delivery and new initiatives throughout the organization. The CMO will also be responsible for the Medical Staff of the WRHA. This will include overseeing the credentialing process and granting privileges to members of the Medical Staff, and overseeing the management of complaints against any Medical Staff. The CMO chairs the WRHA Medical Advisory Committee and works closely with medical leaders who are part of the Provincial Medical Leadership Council. In addition, the CMO will oversee the WRHA Medical remuneration budget and works with programs regarding contracts for Medical Staff. The CMO maintains close relationships with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and Doctors Manitoba, and works closely with Manitoba Health and the Shared Health workforce planning. EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS Medical Degree is required Medical license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba Master’s Degree in Public, Business, or Health Administration, or equivalent is an asset Process Improvement training, EXTRA Certification, or equivalents would be an asset QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 15+ years of progressively senior management roles in health services delivery 5 years of recent experience with program management, preferably in a large health region Experience with the development, evaluation, and implementation of strategic plans Strong understanding and commitment of quality and patient safety Demonstrated leadership skills driving a collaborative practice, developing future physician leaders within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team Demonstrated expertise in patient flow and process improvement Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, lead and implement strategic change High level communication, operational and interpersonal skills Demonstrable ability to engage and involve physicians If you would like further details about this opportunity, the WRHA, and the City of Winnipeg, please visit http://bit.ly/WRHA-CMO or contact Paul Croteau, Senior Partner, Waterhouse Executive Search, at (204) 934-8821.
