Job Description

The President and CEO is the senior executive responsible for all operations at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH), West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH), and their respective Foundations. NGH and WHGH operate with two Boards of Directors and one Senior Management Team, with a combined operating budget of approximately $67 million. Together, these Hospitals provide a broad spectrum of acute care (inpatient and outpatient).

Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home is an 80-bed facility and operates with a Board of Trustees and the Senior Management Team, with an operating budget of approximately $6 million.

NGH is located in Simcoe and serves Norfolk County and neighbouring Haldimand/Oxford Counties. WHGH is situated in Hagersville and serves the communities of Hagersville, Caledonia, Jarvis, Townsend, Cayuga, Fisherville, Selkirk, Nanticoke, the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The Hospitals are close to Lake Erie, and ninety minutes from Hamilton and London.


As the ideal candidate and our new President and CEO you are an inspiring and empowering leader who is genuinely committed to the vision of a robust community-based hospital in the context of an Ontario Health Team. You will have a unique ability to build collaborative partner relationships with our boards, staff, community and system partners in order to move our agenda forward.

As our President and CEO, you will provide executive oversight and strategic business leadership to meet the identified needs of Norfolk County and Haldimand County with quality health care and health service programs. Reporting to our Boards of Directors, as CEO you will have responsibility for the overall administrative leadership, operational and financial management of three organizations. This encompasses strategic leadership with a focus on quality and risk management, exemplary patient care, patient and workplace safety, financial sustainability, capital and operational planning, internal and external communication and the day-to-day management of activities and programs guided by the organization’s by-laws and regulatory and accountability instruments.  


  • Management: Substantive leadership (at least 10 years) in an executive capacity demonstrated through progressive experience in complex organizations, ideally focused in health services.
  • Strategic Thinking: A track record as a strategic and innovative systems thinker with the ability to communicate future vision and translate that information into successful outcomes.
  • People Leadership: Exceptional leadership skills including the ability to direct, motivate, evaluate, empower, collaborate, share knowledge and recognize staff.
  • Engagement and Partnership: Experience engaging others, building consensus and delivering results with diverse stakeholder groups towards common solutions.
  • Relationship Management: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with our Board, Ontario Health, the Ministry, private and public stakeholders, staff, physicians and the general public.
  • Program and Change Management: Experience in successfully leading complex multi-stakeholder programs and change initiatives using best practices.
  • Business Management: Proven experience in business, financial, human resource and large capital project management with the ability to improve organizational effectiveness through the efficient utilization of resources.
  • Healthcare: Solid understanding of government, policy, programming and funding models related to the Ontario health system and ideally the hospital environment.
  • Community Focus: A genuine desire and commitment to be an active participant and leader in our local communities.
  • Education: Post graduate academic accreditation in business, health or public administration, or comparable credentials.
