The Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto is the largest imaging department in Canada. It includes the imaging departments of eight fully affiliated teaching hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area, forming one of the largest teaching facilities in the world. Our core strengths include our undergraduate, residency and fellowship programs that attract national and international applicants from around the world. All of our training sites operate with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, PACS and communication systems. Our curriculum is aimed at promoting the next generation of clinical radiologists, educators, researchers, innovators, leaders and patient advocates in medical imaging.

As Business Manager, you will partner with the Chair in defining and accomplishing the strategic goals and objectives of our department. You will be adept at leading and operationalizing the department’s vision through the effective management of all administrative functions, namely finance, human resources, information technology, research administration, special projects, and space management. Your record of financial acumen, developing comprehensive business plans, building collaborative relationships, and proven ability to navigate and influence within complex organizational structures will help to advance our academic priorities.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree and training in the area of financial and human resource management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative management experience, preferably in a university or hospital environment
  • Strong financial management experience and analytical ability in budget modelling and forecasting
  • Experience supporting strategic planning initiatives, and developing and implementing business plans
  • Successful experience managing, leading and mentoring staff, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Experience in developing effective business processes and systems to increase efficiency and optimize the use of resources
  • Experience working with and supporting various committees
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and organizational skills
  • A collaborative and consultative style and ability to problem solve creatively
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong planning skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within deadlines
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and comprehend a variety of policies and procedures
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with a broad array of stakeholders
  • Proven commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality related to financial and HR activities
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity using databases

Assets

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures and their application within the Faculty of Medicine
  • Knowledge of University of Toronto’s Administrative Management System (AMS), including FIS and HRIS
  • Experience administering academic funds and multiple research grants
