Position Description:
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital, as well as one of the world's leading research centres in the area of addiction and mental health. CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to transform the lives of people affected by mental illness and addictions.

As Canada's leading mental illness research facility, CAMH is home to scientists, staff and research trainees conducting leading research to improve the understanding of the brain and the causes, the biomarkers and cures of mental illness as well as  research to advance the prevention and treatment for mental illness and addictions across the lifespan. With a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment that spans clinical, biological, social and epidemiological research, CAMH supports a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. 

CAMH is seeking a strong early career scientist or clinician scientist to play a  role in advancing understanding of women's mental health. The incumbent must lead transformational research focusing on women's mental health; must be able to foster academic research aimed at ameliorating and ultimately preventing the impact of serious mental illness or addictions on women through novel biological, social and/or psychological interventions and service delivery; and develop a better understanding of complex etiologic processes contributing to and exacerbating women's mental illness and addictions to improve prevention, treatment and outcomes for women at high risk of developing serious mental illness or addictions.

Specific responsibilities and expectations include but are not limited to:
Lead the design and submission of externally funded applications as the Principal Investigator and manage budget to ensure support of operational resources;
Communicate research through high impact peer reviewed scientific manuscripts;
Foster collaborations among researchers interested in women's mental health across clinical and research programs;
Disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers; and
Mentor, train and manage a team of research staff and trainees.

CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and the successful applicant will need to obtain academic affiliation with a University department at the Assistant Professor level or above.

The successful applicant must have completed in the last 5 years either a Medical Degree with relevant research training and be eligible for licensure in Ontario, or a PhD in a health-related discipline. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise and experience conducting research on women's mental health. Expertise in identifying optimal study designs for specific scientific questions within the incumbents? field of study is required as well as an understanding of new methodologies and tools to advance the understanding of women's mental health. The ability to develop quality applications to external granting agencies and oversee independent research is required. The candidate must also be able conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative research with mental health/addiction, government, hospital and/or community organizations. The candidate must excel in cultivating internal and external relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, decision makers and the scientific community. The capacity to work with individuals of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, five (5) year contract position is NOT part of the any bargaining Unit.
