The Trauma Program at Sunnybrook provides highly specialized care to severely injured adults with serious life or limb-threatening conditions where time is critical. The Tory Trauma Program cares for over 1600 trauma patients per year and has achieved some of the best patient outcomes in Canada.
This program encompasses services related to Trauma, Critical Care, Burn, Neurosurgical, and Plastic surgical care. We have one of the largest critical care services in the province caring for critically ill populations short of solid organ transplantation. The Trauma Program has an annual budget of over $50M, this includes operational oversight for 5 critical care units and 2 inpatient units.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Chief Nursing and Health Professions Executive, the successful candidate must have extensive experience in strategic and operational planning; performance and quality management. Ideally, the candidate should have developed these skills in the context of a large academic health sciences centre. A critical success factor is the ability to build strong teams and be a strategic and operational partner to the Program Chief.
This role works in collaboration with respective Medical Directors, Senior Leadership, Directors, Managers, interprofessional teams, patients and their families. The role responsibilities include clinical and financial administration, program planning, and providing representation at regional and provincial fora relevant to Program activity. The Operations Director will have over 10 direct reports, including several Patient Care Managers, Advanced Practice Nurses, Clinical Educators and a Nurse Practitioner.

Qualifications & Skills:
Clinical or health administration master’s degree
A minimum of 5-10 years of formal leadership/management experience (preferably at the Director level)

Demonstrated ability to be flexible and agile while efficiently supporting the organization during periods of change and shifts in strategic goals and objectives
Experience in building and leading effective teams to conduct various project work such as process improvement

Bloom Clinic is committed to providing community-based testing, treatment, and support to people who are experiencing homelessness, people who use drugs, people who are incarcerated or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system, and Indigenous community members.
The NP will integrate his/her knowledge of advanced nursing practice and theory, health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management, health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management to provide primary health care to individuals, families, groups, and communities. The Nurse Practitioner will have a unique opportunity to work alongside an interdisciplinary team and co-create a new model of care that will focus on supporting transition for youth with chronic, complex conditions, rare disease and social complexity to adult services.
The Transition to Adult Care Program is a new initiative that seeks to support youth with complex, chronic illness, who often experience challenges with transitioning from pediatric to adult care. As SickKids moves towards a more individualized model of care powered by Precision Child Health, we have a duty to design and implement solutions that bridge Unprecedented Outcomes from childhood to adulthood. The Nurse Practitioner will play an instrumental role in coordinating care, empowering youth and enabling providers across the continuum of care to assume collaborative care management of youth in the community and primary care settings.

Join our growing pharmacy team at Hamilton Health Sciences in providing safe and effective medication while The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the General Pediatrics – Complex Care Service at McMaster Children’s Hospital is dually accountable to the Director of the Child and Youth Acute Care Program and the Chief of Interprofessional Practice. The NP will function with the five domains of the role identified by the Canadian Nurses Association’s APN Framework; clinical practice, research, leadership, consultation and collaboration with education.
The NP will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP supports the clinical activity of the General Pediatrician – Complex Care and the associated patient care and interventions through the Ambulatory service including off site affiliated satellite clinics in LHIN 3 & 4. This would include the areas of the pediatric emergency department, inpatients and the outpatient clinics.
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible for providing direct patient care to their full scope of practice, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings. The NP will also initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of Interprofessional care teams. The NP will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP supports the clinical activity of the General Pediatrician – Complex Care and the associated patient care and interventions through the Ambulatory service including off site affiliated satellite clinics in LHIN 3 & 4. This would include the areas of the pediatric emergency department, inpatients and the outpatient clinics.
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible for providing direct patient care to their full scope of practice, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings. The NP will also initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of Interprofessional care teams. The NP will work in partnership with the complex care team, consultants, nursing and other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive medical assessment, management and education. Qualifications • Current Certificate of Registration in the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class RN(EC) • Master’s of Nursing Degree or Equivalent • Completion of Post-Master’s of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner program with a focus in Pediatrics • Minimum of five (5) years’ recent acute/primary clinical experience in pediatrics • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other professional organizations relevant to the role • Certification in Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or relevant certificates recommended • Proficiency in performing history and examination of the infant, toddler, child and adolescent • Knowledge and assessment of developmental milestones at all stages of pediatric development and ability to access appropriate community or hospital-based resources in setting of developmental delays • Ability to counsel and educate parents and children in ambulatory, inpatient, home and community environments • Ability to handle significant daily psychological and emotional stress in dealing with parents of critically or chronically ill children • Experience in the development and maintenance of medical directives • Demonstrated ability for independent action, initiative, problem solving, organization and prioritization • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal • Demonstrated ability to work in a consultative role with the members of the Interprofessional team • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations • Knowledge and experience in change theory and pediatric learning principles • Demonstrated ability to utilize information technology • Commitment to continuous professional development to acquire new knowledge and maintain competency • Eligible for cross appointment with McMaster University School of Nursing at the undergraduate and graduate level As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.
