Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development  

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care (Waypoint) is an internationally recognized speciality mental health hospital located on the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay in the Town of Penetanguishene. Waypoint provides an extensive range of acute and longer-term psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services to all of Simcoe County, Muskoka/Parry Sound and parts of Dufferin County. With a total of 301-beds, Waypoint has 141-beds in six (6) specialized inpatient programs dedicated to providing regional mental health and addictions care; 160-beds providing Ontario’s only high secure forensic mental health program for patients served by both the mental health and justice systems; and various outpatient programs serving the needs of youth, adults and seniors.

The Position

Waypoint is seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development (VP). In this key leadership role, the VP will have the mandate to develop and implement key strategies that will contribute to a high-performance, team-based culture. A key strategic advisor, the VP will provide leadership to a broad range of change initiatives that will effectively position the organization to advance HR best practices and proactively respond to market trends and government decisions. The VP will participate in creating and sustaining an organization that fosters a highly engaged, performance-oriented workforce whose outcomes are aligned with Waypoint’s strategic plan and mission.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the VP is responsible for providing organizational leadership in developing and executing a human resources strategy which supports the overall strategic direction of Waypoint, specifically in the areas of organizational and leadership development; talent management, including recruitment and retention; labour and employee relations; employee health and safety; workforce planning compensation and benefits design and implementation; volunteer services; and performance management.

In addition, key leadership initiatives for the new VP will include:

  • Lead strategies that facilitate the achievement of the human resources and organizational goals outlined in Waypoint’s new 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, including completion of the HR Strategic Plan.
  • Leverage HR business metrics and strategies that champion a culture of excellence and action orientation.
  • Champion key organizational initiatives that empower staff engagement and development, build leadership capacity, enhance workplace health, safety, and wellness, and further develop constructive and open labour relations.
  • Develop and implement human resources and organizational development strategies and processes that support Waypoint’s goals regarding engagement, collaboration, innovation, and healthy workplace excellence.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and counsel to members of the Senior Leadership Team and to programs across Waypoint on people-related matters and HR systems, processes, and policies.
  • Continue the development and mentoring of Human Resources and Organizational Development staff.


The successful candidate will have at least 7-10 years of progressive experience in healthcare and/or a similarly complex environment/sector. This is a key strategic role that requires someone who has successfully led and executed a human resources strategy in a complex, unionized environment. The successful candidate will have the transformational ability to guide culture change to continue the development of a successful and progressive people culture.
