The Research Chair will develop and undertake applied research projects, in line with HRH’s Research Strategy, ultimately supporting the hospital’s Strategic Plan to become an academic hospital; to attract research funding in support of the overall research agenda and program; to build capacity at HRH by providing training and research opportunities to both research and hospital staff/affiliates.

To lead the portfolio of research projects from the Optimizing Care through Technology of the HRH Research Strategy. Research projects that align with the theme of Optimizing Care through Technology play a crucial role in achieving the organization’s vision, mission and strategic initiatives in building the hospital’s research program.  To help Humber develop an academic culture, build research capacity and attract research funding and talent to the organization.  Research Chair, Optimizing Care through Technology to facilitate graduate student placements within the Research Office.

Activities

  • Develop and lead an independent research program that aligns with the Optimizing Care through Technology pillar of research as part of Humber River Hospital’s Research Strategy
  • Prepare and review research proposals in collaboration with members of research team(s)
  • Ensure review of Research Impact Analysis submissions to Senior Management Team for approval
  • Identify research funding opportunities, prepare and submit applications (e.g. granting agencies, philanthropic organizations, governments, etc.)
  • Oversee the execution of research projects with attention to methodology, timelines, budget and stakeholder engagement
  • Oversee all aspects of data collection, management and analysis related to research studies
  • Work closely with the Research Manager to ensure compliance with Standard Operating
  • Procedures in accordance to Good Clinical Practice (Research Best Practices)
  • Knowledge translation of research findings and sharing of results with appropriate stakeholder communities, including clinical staff, senior management, patients/families, broader clinical and research communities
  • Recruit, supervise and mentor junior research staff, including coordinators, research assistants, graduate students and other trainees, attracting appropriate candidates and aligned with the research strategy.
  • Bring together teams from within and outside Humber River Hospital to collaborate on research studies and identifying appropriate opportunities for research funding.
  • Develop and maintain research partnerships with research colleagues in academic, hospital and other settings, as appropriate

Requirements

  • Candidates are expected to have, or be eligible for, a faculty appointment at a post-secondary institution.
  • Existing faculty appointment at a postsecondary institution Preferred.
  • Five or more years of high quality research experience in large, complex health care and/or academic organizations.
  • Five or more years of research productivity appropriate to career stage, as demonstrated by a track record of strong research activity, research funding and academic output.
  • Experience with Research funding environment and working with university research office(s)
  • Academic credentials required are a completed Phd. in a field relative to the posted role.
