Public Health Ontario (PHO) is a provincial crown agency that provides scientific and technical advice and support to those working across sectors to protect and promote the health of Ontarians. For our partners and clients — government, public health practitioners, hospitals and other health care facilities, community laboratories, front-line health workers and researchers — we provide the scientific evidence and expert guidance to enable informed decisions and actions, and to anticipate and respond to emerging public health issues. We operate the provincial public health laboratory service. Through our eleven fully accredited laboratory sites, we respond to provincial and local service needs and process more than six million tests each year providing clinical and environmental laboratory testing and related expert advice, services and research in support of the prevention and control of communicable diseases across Ontario.

PHO is seeking a Chief, Laboratory Operations to provide executive leadership and accountability for the planning, implementation and strategic direction for all laboratory operations and clinical services at PHO central and regional laboratory sites. Cultivating a strong laboratory management team, the new Chief will act as a strategic and transformational leader, specialist, advisor and thought leader across the organization to lead the services in the areas of: laboratory services, operations and laboratory infrastructure, safety and service - which are integrated with clinical, research and public health initiatives across PHO.

As a well-qualified candidate, you have a minimum 15 years’ experience (minimum 5 years at the senior executive level) in leading a highly specialized and complex environment such as a multi-site academic laboratory or diagnostic laboratory. You combine post graduate level education and technical knowledge of professional principles and best practices in the field of laboratory operations with excellent interpersonal, leadership, and team building skills. You are skilled in collaborating with multidisciplinary groups of technical, medical and scientific professionals. You have the demonstrated strategic and analytic skills to think, work and communicate across a system both vertically and horizontally, building exceptional relationships within the organization and with external partners.
