NOSM is a made-in-the-North solution that is attracting attention from around the world for its innovative model of community-engaged medical education and research, while staying true to its social accountability mandate of contributing to improving the health of the people and communities of Northern Ontario.

NOSM serves as the Faculty of Medicine of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and the Faculty of Medicine of Laurentian University in Sudbury. NOSM’s campus spans thousands of kilometres and includes Indigenous, Francophone, remote/rural communities, and urban centres. 

Faculty Affairs provides leadership, supervision and representation for the faculty of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in order to ensure the School has the necessary resources to provide the highest quality educational experience for learners, while building capacity and commitment of teaching resources in the North.  Comprised of three sciences – Clinical, Medical, and Human – the Faculty Affairs Portfolio is responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, evaluation, promotion, integration and mentoring of faculty members.

Accountable to the Dean, President and CEO, the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs (FA) is responsible for the Faculty Affairs Portfolio, including the supervision of direct reports.  Providing leadership and vision in the development of a Faculty Affairs five-year strategic plan, the Associate Dean (FA) creates and continually improves strategies to facilitate effective bilateral communication between NOSM leadership/programs and all faculty members.  Additionally, the incumbent leads the administration of faculty collective agreements in collaboration with the Director, Human Resources and the Dean.  With exceptional communication skills and an attitude of openness and cultural sensitivity, the Associate Dean (FA) has the ability to cultivate partnerships with communities, Health Sciences North, and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre that allow for a superior environment for learning and inquiry for faculty members.

The successful candidate preferably already holds a faculty appointment in the Clinical Sciences Division at NOSM, and must be able to commit to a minimum of 0.6 Full-Time Equivalent (3 days per week) time allocation for a five year term, normally renewable once upon satisfactory review.  Current licensure and membership in good standing with CPSO is a requirement as is five (5) years of directly related experience in a senior role in academic administration.  Knowledge of CPSO and OMA policies and processes is considered an asset.
