THE OPPORTUNITY

Osler and its many community partners have formally been announced as the Brampton/ Etobicoke Area Ontario Health Team (OHT). This exciting development positions Osler to take the lead, regionally and provincially, in setting the bar for the highest level of patient care. In anticipation of continual growth in the communities served by Osler, capital expansion plans are underway.

This is an exciting opportunity to be on the front line and play an active role in one of the largest health systems changes in Ontario’s History!

Reporting directly to the Director, Emergency Services and with accountability to the Program Medical Director and Site Chief the Clinical Services Manager, is an integral member of the Program’s leadership team. This role has responsibility for a dedicated interprofessional team supporting the Emergency Department at Brampton Civic Hospital. With a focus on patient and family centered care, the Clinical Services Manager will have overall accountability for ensuring that patient care is provided safely and competently. The Clinical Services Manager will have the responsibility for the effective and efficient management of human, fiscal and material resources required to address patient / family care needs and ensure an overall positive experience.

Brampton Civic is one of the largest and busiest Emergency Departments in the country, seeing over 125,000 visits a year and is only one of a handful of Pay for Results facilities in the province. The interprofessional front line team of some 300 passionate and highly skilled clinicians that benefit from a dedicated educator to help to elevate clinical best practices. This is an opportunity for a leader to foster a renewed and uplifted sense of community and teamwork within the unit and to encourage them to grow and develop, individually and as a group. 

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will be an inspirational, lead from the front, manager that knows their role is to empower staff and clear hurdles for front line staff, so they can provide best in class patient care. We are looking for a leader that excels in operational effectiveness; is committed to patient-centred design; and has a passion for leading workplace environment transformation within an interprofessional setting.

In particular, we are seeking a dynamic leader who has a demonstrated history of achieving results; clinically, financially and operationally. The next Clinical Services Manager will be tasked with leading complex change and will be someone who is able to think critically and strategically in a fast-paced environment and look at the ED through a process improvement lens. Further, the successful candidate consistently demonstrates our values of compassion, excellence and courage when leading the delivery of an exceptional patient experience.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements the functional and strategic plans and/or initiatives for relevant areas in consultation / collaboration with the Director, physician partners and team members;
  • Defines the organizational supports and structures required for relevant areas in consultation / collaboration with the Director;
  • Monitors patient / family and staff satisfaction programs in relevant areas and organizes improvement opportunities
  • Fosters an engaged workforce, seeking opportunities for improvement, staff development and support.
  • Promotes a collaborative and respectful professional practice climate and fosters an interdisciplinary approach to safe patient care and patient / family experience;
  • Hires, orients and manages staff performance as determined by human resource policies, union contracts, legislation and standards of practice;
  • Develops, monitors, controls and evaluates budgets and staffing plans in consultation and collaboration with the Director and organizational partners;
  • Consistently monitors performance, taking corrective action if and when required;
  • Develops processes for selecting, evaluating and maintaining material / equipment needed for delivering and enhancing patient care;
  • Develops and maintains effective interdepartmental relationships and participates in activities which contribute to the effective function of the relevant areas, the program and the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Health Discipline Professional designation
  • Undergraduate Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent managerial/supervisory experience and clinical experience and knowledge in Emergency Services
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and foster strong and positive customer / partner / staff relationships
  • Demonstrated leadership, planning and project management skills
  • Strong problem solving and change management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated team player
  • Established reputation as a consultative, collaborative leader, which encourages commitment to a shared vision
  • Evidence of collaboration across multiple disciplines / divisions / programs / services
  • Ability to travel between campuses
  • A combination of experience and academic qualifications will be considered
