Our Intensive Care units are state of the art, and allow our multidisciplinary teams to provide a comprehensive array of intensive care services for complex ventilated medical/surgical patients with multi-system failure. The staffing ratio is 1:1 for ventilated and critically unstable patients. ICU nurses are part of the Code Blue team except for the Cowichan District and West Coast General Hospitals. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and organ donor maintenance is available at the Victoria and Nanaimo Hospitals.
The High Acuity units at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria General Hospital and Nanaimo General Hospital act as intermediate care areas between Adult intensive Care and Inpatient Medicine/surgical units. The HAU provides care for adult patients requiring increased monitoring and resuscitation in a multidisciplinary environment. The unit's staffing includes Intensivist and Critical Care Nurses with specialty education training. The nurse-to-patient ratio in this unit is 1:2.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BC College of Nurses and Midwives).
Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience and or an accredited Critical Care course.
Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support and CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) are assets.

Reporting to the Operations Director, Professional Practice, IPAC, & Allied Health Services, this position has a strong focus on leading, innovating, and implementing progressive and sustainable practices that promote health professional excellence and evidence-based practice. What you’ll do
Triage and prioritize patients for appointments according to program criteria as a member of the Reproductive Health Team by methods such as reviewing referral documents, screening and requesting additional relevant documents, determining when additional tests such as blood tests and ultrasounds are required, and participating in coordinating appointments.
Monitor patient care needs by providing telephone counselling and support to patients in the program, regarding such issues as pre/post operative care, medication support and pelvic pain. Work collaboratively with medical staff and other multi-disciplinary health care team members to assist in ensuring effective, high-quality patient care.
Provide clinical nursing support and care for patients undergoing surgery and enrolled in educational workshops, by establishing therapeutic relationships both in phone and in person with patients, identifying patient’s perspectives and learning needs and providing explanations and reassurances in response to questions/concerns. The nurse works within the interdisciplinary reviewing cases, collaborating on pathways of care and team meetings.
Provide patients with the results of their investigations within the scope of nursing by methods such as telephoning patient and communicating pathway of care. Communicate patient information such as abnormal results to appropriate members of the Reproductive Health multidisciplinary team.

Given the breadth and depth of exposure to many interrelated systems and services, 6AB provides an excellent foundation for those aspiring for developing toward future careers in critical care, emergency department, operating room, clinical teaching, leadership/management and advanced nursing practice (e.g. CNS, APN, NP, etc.)

Overview
We are currently looking for someone to join our dynamic Leadership Team in the role of Nurse Manager. The primary role of the Nurse Manager is to provide effective coordination and supervision of the delivery of Community Health Services.
This is a Full-Time, permanent position. Hours of work will be Monday-Friday as well as participation in the Branch Manager On-Call, which includes evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.

What The Role Involves
Our leadership team plays a critical role in providing high quality patient care, mentoring our health care teams and inspiring others.
Provides coordination, supervision, and coaching to the Community Support Workers in the field.
Develops and maintains an effective Care Plan with respect to Community Health Services, independently or in cooperation with the Home and Community Care Support Services (HCCSS).
Keeps abreast of policies outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act and Community Health Services best practices and monitoring employee performance.
Promotes and markets Community Health Services and maintains positive public relations.
Provides active guidance for workplace Health and Safety.
Performs other duties as required.
What You Bring
Registered Nurse (RN) degree
3 - 5 years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Proven computer skills, including email, word processing, work scheduling systems
Thorough knowledge of case management skills and nursing processes and practices
Vehicle is required and some regular travel is required
Leadership and people management skills are an asset
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
French language skills are an asset
