The Position

Reporting to the President of SJHH, the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (VP/CFO) is an influential member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership to the Hospital and the Research Institute, and for overseeing the daily operations of Financial Services, Procurement, Materials Management, and Library Services. Inherent in the role will be the ability to lead and facilitate the optimization of funding across the organization, consistent with best practice approaches to health service delivery across the continuum of care. He/she will promote effective performance internally at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and at external tables across the Region and the Province. The VP/CFO, in conjunction with the President, will also lead the execution of the organization’s financial strategy that reflects St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s strategic priorities; continues to enhance financial stewardship, confidence and system capacity; and further develops and builds relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.


Key leadership priorities for the new VP/CFO will be to:

  • Continue to advance a financial strategy that effectively positions the team as strategic business partners across the Hospital and System.
  • Identify opportunities to position the Hospital for future success in Ontario’s evolving landscape of health care funding and service delivery models.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership regarding financial opportunities and challenges, projected growth and government funding changes, investment and business planning, and risk management initiatives.
  • Contribute insight and analysis to strategic policy development on hospital funding and financial sustainability.
  • Continue to build internal and external leadership within a multi-stakeholder environment.


The successful candidate will have at least seven to ten years of progressive leadership experience in health care and/or a similarly complex environment/sector. In addition to possessing a graduate degree and accounting designation, the Candidate will be a change agent, inspiring leader and engaged team player. This is an influential leadership role that requires someone that excels at driving operational efficiency and business strategy in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. The successful Candidate will have the transformational ability to implement leading practices in fiscal accountability and corporate governance.
