Job Description

Chief Executive Officer

Blanche River Health

A strategic and results-oriented, transformational leader with a collaborative approach will seize this opportunity to join Blanche River Health at a time of unprecedented change and play a vital role in advancing its mission to “Provide the Right care, in the Right place, by the Right person, at the Right Time”.

Currently a partnership agreement between the 62-bed Kirkland & District Hospital (KDH) and the 30-bed Englehart & District Hospital (EDH), working together with shared principles, values and guidelines, Blanche River Health (BRH) is on an exciting journey of formal amalgamation, with approval from the North East Local Health Integration Network (NELHIN) and the ministries of Health and Long-Term Care. The new BRH organization will continue to leverage the strengths of EDH and KDH, both fully accredited, community hospitals committed to providing quality, patient-centred health care services in Northern and Central Timiskaming. Affiliated with various Ontario colleges and universities, EDH and KDH are committed to a culture and environment of teaching and learning for students.

As Blanche River Health’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you’ll lead an organization that is creating safe, healthy communities and ensuring seamless transitions to other health services through collaboration with community health partners. Reporting to the Board of Directors, you’ll provide innovative, committed and inspiring leadership to drive the successful completion of the amalgamation of Blanche River Health (Kirkland & District Hospital and Englehart & District Hospital) while ensuring top-quality, patient-centred health care services throughout the communities.

A champion of best practices, you’ll stay abreast of the latest trends and continue to innovate and find opportunities to increase the volume and breadth of services offered in support of safe, healthy communities. A gifted listener, you’ll develop strong working relationships with the Board of Directors, the Executive Team, medical leadership, physicians and all staff across BRH. You’ll communicate clearly, transparently and inclusively, to advance the shared vision with internal and external stakeholders, as well as retain and attract top talent. And you’ll continue to build cultural competency to better serve the growing Indigenous population of the region and surrounding areas.

This is a sizable and rewarding executive mandate for a professional with a track record of successful senior leadership experience in a complex health care, unionized, multiple stakeholder environment, with public/government accountability, complemented by a post-graduate degree in Health or Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education. A Certified Health Executive (CHE®) designation, and experience working in a multi-site hospital would be assets.

As the highly collaborative and visible leader this role demands, you’ll have an inclusive decision-making approach, experience working with Board Committees to advance an organization’s strategic plan, and a proven ability to lead, inspire, motivate and engage strong, integrated teams towards a shared vision. Recognized as a confident servant leader, clear, open, responsive, visionary and empowering, you’re comfortable developing strong community partnerships, and working on behalf of the community, as well as regionally and provincially to advance the best interests of BRH in serving its community.

Having previously developed and implemented initiatives and programs to successfully achieve positive, progressive change with and through others, you can anticipate issues and engage senior leadership in problem resolution. As the successful candidate, you’ll also be expected to understand the principles that underline good governance, be able to work with the Board of Directors in accordance with those principles, and demonstrate the financial acumen and leadership necessary to ensure the financial stability of Blanche River Health. Bilingualism (English/French) would be beneficial in this role.
