Groves Memorial Community Hospital · Louise Marshall Hospital · Palmerston & District Hospital

The Wellington Health Care Alliance (WHCA) is comprised of two corporations with more than 1,000 staff, physicians and volunteers, operating three vibrant acute care hospital sites: Groves Memorial Community Hospital (Fergus), and North Wellington Health Care (Louise Marshall Hospital in Mount Forest & Palmerston and District Hospital in Palmerston).   We are embarking upon a new phase of growth with the Spring 2020 opening of our new 155,000 s.f. greenfield Groves Hospital, and a redeveloped Mount Forest site, to be completed in 2021.  

We are currently recruiting a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).  Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the CHRO is a key member of our management team and:

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction for all employee and labour relations activities across our three sites;
  • Fosters a safe and inclusive culture where people feel valued and inspired to do great work.  Monitors effectiveness and quality of worklife through periodic employee engagement activities;
  • Builds mutually respectful relationships with all bargaining agents and groups as collective agreements are negotiated and ratified.  Oversees the grievance, mediation, and arbitration process;
  • Develops policies and procedures, and implements best practices, to support employees at work and ensures a workplace free of violence in every form. Oversees all Occupational Health and Safety activities;
  • Ensures a robust recruitment service, orientation program, education and training program, and retention strategy is in place, which includes managing compensation and benefit management;
  • Ensures that all employees comply with our Code of Behaviours and their respective professional standards, pertinent legislation, regulations, by-laws, policies and procedures;
  • Supports our three Volunteer Associations at each site;
  • Provides vision and leadership in the integration of various services across WHCA sites and the local health system, as the development of Ontario Health Teams unfold;
  • Provides leadership for operational readiness activities for all services within the portfolio in preparation for the move into the new Groves Hospital.

You have five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources Management in a public sector, multi-unionized environment, preferably in an acute care community hospital, and are looking for a new challenge to grow and advance your career. You are described as compassionate, respectful, innovative, professional and collaborative – which align with the values of WHCA.  You have attained the Certified Human Resources Executive (C.H.R.E.) designation and have, or are in the process of, completing a post graduate degree.  You understand the importance of supporting staff across multiple sites and have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
