Position Summary

The Policy Advisor is responsible for managing assigned policy portfolios, providing information, analysis and advice on issues that impact the College’s strategic direction, policy and decision making. The individual will lead strategic initiatives, develop policy and regulatory submissions, and apply a data-driven analytic approach to policy and strategy development. Team oriented, the successful individual will engage and build relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to support the development of policy.


What You’ll Do at OCP

 Lead College strategic initiatives, including setting strategic direction, policy development and implementation, and evidence-based decision-making.

Proactively monitor the health care and regulatory environment and report on key issues and trends that may impact the profession.  

Conduct research, from a number of data points, and provide support in the development of College policies, including jurisdictional reviews and internet research.

Utilize evidence and analysis of data and research to support decision making and development of policy and program implementation, including the establishment of metrics that reflect system and patient outcomes. 

 Conduct public consultations and monitor stakeholder feedback with respect to policy, guidelines and regulatory development and recommend changes based on input.  

Support submission of regulations to government, including conducting research and providing assistance to ensure Cabinet approval. 

Review reports and analysis and present findings to Manager, Strategic Policy, Planning & Analytics and make recommendations, where appropriate. 

Continually examine work process and explore opportunities for improving efficiencies through technology, elimination or altering of work processes and make recommendations to the Senior Policy Advisor. 


What we’re looking for 


High level knowledge of the health system and health regulatory process would be considered a strong asset.

Excellent verbal and written communication.

Excellent interpersonal skills. 

Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.  

Ability to analyze and conduct research related to the development of policies and guidelines. 

Ability to independently establish and maintain networks to enhance the sharing of policy information within and outside the College. 

Ability to provide guidance and direction to staff, coupled with strong decision making skills when weighing the impact of policies. 

Strong time management and prioritization skills with proven ability to complete projects within a specified time frame. 

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications Knowledge of research techniques and methods 

  
What experience we prefer  

Bachelors’ Degree in a recognized area with a focus on policy. 

Masters’ Degree in policy or a health related field would be considered an asset. 

4+ years’ work experience leading policy development in the health system. 

Experience in a regulatory or health care environment is an asset. 

Experience in facilitating difficult conversations among stakeholders with divergent views and coming to agreements.
