Job Description

As a member of the Senior Administration Team, under the general direction of the President & Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Officer provides visible leadership for specific organizational activities that assist KDH and EDH to fulfill and attain its mission.  The Vice President, Clinical Services is accountable for setting the overall direction, strategy development and operational achievement of the Hospitals’ plan for the delivery of quality, compassionate, culturally competent, cost-effective and efficient clinical care to individuals and their families.

Under the general direction of the President & Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent:

  • Oversees inpatient/outpatient clinical services throughout the organization, related services including nursing, infection control, clinical nutrition, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physiotherapy, operating room, respiratory therapy, palliative care, diabetes program, pastoral services, occupational therapy and specialty clinics.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to the senior management team in all clinical matters , participates on the executive team, serves as senior spokesperson for clinical services, promotes and fosters a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care
  • Ensures that patient care delivery, clinical, professional and staffing standards are consistent with current research and with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Provides leadership in the establishment of credentialing/privileging policies for clinical staff and ensures compliance with policies for clinical staff who seek to practice and who practice at the facility.
  • Ensures that all clinical services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Identifies and articulates the vision and strategic direction for clinical staff and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates short and long term department programs
  • Provides leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention, and recognition of excellence in clinical areas.
  • Oversees implementation of operating plans, budgets, strategic direction and ministries, and regulatory affairs for department
  • Participates in planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical programs and services assuring appropriate resources for delivery of quality patient care
  • Creates and supports a healthy and safe work environment by addressing hazardous conditions as soon as identified and holding staff accountable to adhere to safe practices as per policy
  • Provides a work environment for staff free from aggression and unacceptable behavior, addressing exceptions immediately and applying organizational policies and the Hospital’s code of conduct.
  • Holds staff and self to highest standards of customer and patient service by providing ongoing coaching and education to staff and by creating and facilitating a culture of exceptional service.
  • Provides exceptional and exemplary leadership to staff in areas of assigned accountability and responsibilities in the development of future leader and management and the seamless succession within the department.
  • Develops and adheres to budget, manages all resources in a fiscally responsible fashion including the identification and correction of inefficiencies. Demonstrates the ability to recover, and adjust to unforeseen events. Develops new business opportunities & opportunities for collaboration.
  • Uses an understanding of trends, perspectives, and implications to manage differences in strategies, plans and implementation
  • Uses senior leadership experience and training to resolve issues related to balancing the concerns and interests of constituents with the long term organization interests, providing long term planning in a facility accustomed to crisis management, the allocation of limited resources, and competing demands.
  • Uses informal and formal networks within the organization, industry and profession to build and facilitate relationships
  • Other duties as assigned.
