JOB SUMMARY:  

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides comprehensive diagnostic services and intervention and referral services to clients so to aid in their recovery or maintain a maximum level of functioning and independence. Occupational Therapy services are provided in accordance with legislation, standards, guidelines, ethics of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), Provincial OT licensing, Canadian Council Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA.), the physician orders and the policies of the Hay River Health & Social Services Authority

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Master’s of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. Broad base of clinical experience and theoretical knowledge in Occupational Therapy is preferred. Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.

  • Time management and well developed organizational skills to manage a large and varied caseload, as well as required department management activities.
  • Ability to communicate through verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently in all areas of Occupational Therapy practice is required.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Registration/licensure with an appropriate Occupational Therapy Canadian Provincial regulatory body.
  • Active membership in the CAOT.
  • The OT must have knowledge of cognitive, physical and psychological development and impairment related to occupational therapy including anatomy, physiology and pathology in all age groups.
  • An ability to apply therapeutic processes (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to ensure that the patient’s physical, emotional, psychosocial, educational and day-to-day living needs are met.
  • An ability to fabricate or select orthotics and/or devices/tools (including but not limited to custom splints, insoles, braces, assistive devices, etc.) required to support injured body parts or aid daily living.
  • An ability to educate clients, their families (where applicable) and other health care professionals on appropriate self-care methods and techniques.

Salary:                                                   Range 16, $44.75 to $53.44 per hour

In addition to an attractive salary and benefits program, we offer a Northern Allowance of $3.08 per hour up to a maximum of $5,999  per year, prorated on hours worked.
