London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), one of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals, is dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching and research. Additionally, they are home to the London Regional Cancer Program, CSTAR (Canadian Surgical Technologies & Advanced Robotics) and two research institutes - Children’s Health Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute.
St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s) is one of Ontario’s leading teaching hospitals, contributing to the advancement of health care, education and research. They are a partner in London’s academic health sciences community. St. Joseph’s is a Catholic health care organization, owned by the St. Joseph’s Health Care Society of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London. St. Joseph’s is comprised of St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkwood Institute, Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care, Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care, Lawson Health Research Institute and 12 team and service locations across the region/province. St. Joseph’s has major roles in day and short stay surgery, complex chronic disease management, specialized mental health care, rehabilitation; complex continuing care; palliative care, long term care, and veterans care.
Both LHSC and St. Joseph’s are affiliated with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, providing learning experiences for students from colleges and universities around the world.
LHSC and St. Joseph’s are seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Integrated Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs. In this role, you will have the mandate to lead exciting patient care initiatives and support the evolution of medical staff, ensuring the future is driven by the priorities of quality and patient-centred care. Your leadership will help both organizations contribute to a region-wide health system by leading corporate initiatives where the engagement and support of medical leaders is critical. As a champion of quality improvement, you will work closely across both Executive teams and members of the city-wide clinical staff to achieve sustained improvements in program outcomes and quality.
Responsible to the President and CEOs of LHSC and St. Joseph’s and working in partnership with both Executive teams, your medical leadership will be key to shaping and guiding the culture of both organizations. As a passionate advocate for clinical and academic excellence, you will lead and support a highly dedicated team of physicians. This role requires a high degree of visibility and presence across both organizations, with demonstrated skills in leading and managing transformative care initiatives. The ability to build effective relationships with physicians and other stakeholders as well as the ability to influence will be important to the success of the role and the organization.
Key leadership priorities for the Integrated Vice President will be to:
You are a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible for licensure. You are an experienced, inclusive and visionary leader with credentials in both medical leadership and clinical practice. You are assertive, fair, and highly regarded in your field of medical practice and have a breadth of medical leadership experience in either formal or informal leadership roles. Equally comfortable in the clinical, academic and administrative environments, you understand the needs of physicians in hospitals, and can support them in undertaking practice changes. You possess superb interpersonal, communication (oral and written), negotiation and change management skills and have a history of providing leadership to and team building with clinical staff. Recognized as an effective change leader and successful in building relationships, you have demonstrated your commitment to quality improvement, broader systems-level change, and an academic mandate.
