The health network provides services spanning primary care, secondary community care, tertiary and quaternary care services to post-acute through rehabilitation, palliative care and long-term care.

St. Joseph’s Health Centre (St. Joe’s Toronto) is a Catholic community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto that has served the communities of West Toronto and beyond for nearly a century. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department is part of the Women’s and Children’s Program which includes the Family Birthing Centre, a Level 2 NICU, a regional Paediatric Centre, a Division of Midwifery, and partners with Family Medicine. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is comprised of 20 specialists. There are approximately 3,300 deliveries yearly at St. Joe’s Toronto and there is a Minimally Invasive Surgery Service within Gynecology.

The Position

The Chief and Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Chief), will be responsible for the leadership of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Program at St. Joe’s Toronto. This is an innovative, high-functioning, program servicing the West Toronto Community. The Chief will champion best practice and quality initiatives in a dynamic inter-professional environment within a program management model. The Chief will work closely with the Program Leadership and the many dedicated clinicians, specialists and hospital team members, patients and families to provide high quality hospital and health services to patients and their families. 

Key leadership priorities for the Chief will be to:

  • Advance a highly collaborative culture that supports active community engagement, academic endeavours and partnerships.
  • Identify, develop and implement key program initiatives that can maximize quality, advance transformative care, and adopt best practices across the continuum of the patient journey.
  • Enhance and continue to build excellent relationships with academic partners and collaborators.
  • Partner and build relationships with internal and external providers, clinicians, teams, stakeholders and leaders to ensure optimal team performance and the provision of the highest quality and safest care to patients and families.


The successful candidate will be an accomplished clinician and teacher with a proven track record of academic achievements. You are a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible for licensure, with certification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other certification that is deemed to be equivalent. The successful candidate should have or be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto.
