THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting directly to the Director, In-Patient Medicine & ICU Program, with accountability to the Program Chief & Medical Director, Medicine, the Clinical Manager, is an integral member of the Program’s leadership team. This role has responsibility for a team on Unit 2B-Medicine at the Credit Valley Hospital. Unit 2B-Medicine is currently an acute, in-patient unit whose team cares for patients with complex and often chronic medical conditions. This team also has a particular focus on supporting patients with chronic kidney disease who require dialysis.

2B is a 52-bed unit with a 100+ interprofessional front line team of passionate and highly skilled clinicians that benefit from a dedicated educator to help to elevate clinical best practices. This is an opportunity for a leader to elevate the sense to community and team work within the unit and to encourage them to grow and develop, individually and as a group.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will be an inspirational, lead from the front, manager that knows their role is to clear hurdles for front line staff, so they can provide best in class patient care. We are looking for a leader 

that excels in operational effectiveness; is committed to patient-centred design; and has a passion for leading workplace environment transformation within an interprofessional setting.

In particular, we are seeking a dynamic leader who has a demonstrated history of achieving results; leading complex change and who is able to think critically and strategically in a fast-paced environment. Further, the successful candidate consistently demonstrates our values of compassion, excellence and courage when leading the delivery of an exceptional patient experience.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and effectively manage resources (e.g. financial, human, physical space, equipment and materials) in alignment with the Hospital’s strategic plan
  • Oversee the quality of care delivered by the interprofessional team in collaboration with the other leaders in the Program
  • Support and actively participate the effective management of patient transitions within and beyond the hospital
  • Recognize, assess and mitigate risks related to patient care and provider safety
  • Review, analyze and apply program performance data to support decision-making and continuous quality improvement
  • Manage all aspects of employee relations including: human resource planning; recruitment, performance management; coaching/mentoring and professional development
  • Actively support the execution of the In-Patient Medicine & ICU Program’s work plan

Qualifications:

  • Regulated Health Professional in Ontario; Nursing background preferred
  • Baccalaureate degree required; Master’s degree preferred (e.g. Health Administration, Leadership, Quality)
  • Minimum five years of formal leadership experience in clinical operations, preferably in hospital setting
  • Excellent performance and attendance record required
  • Excellent oral, written and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity in a complex and fast-paced environment
  • Proven success in managing changing and transforming workplace culture
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
