We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre within Alberta Kidney Care North (AKC-N). In this program, the RN delivers comprehensive patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. In this position, you will receive Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Certification training, providing you with the knowledge, tools, and resources to confidently care for your patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of AKC-N to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. AKC-N cares for patients during the entire hemodialysis continuum and actively include family and others in the care process. Within Alberta Kidney Care North, the Registered Nurse provides patient care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. The RN assumes unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per Unit Manager Direction.
In addition to this permanent 0.35 FTE position you may have the opportunity to maintain general nursing skills and supplement your part-time position with a casual position in acute care within the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Basic computer skills. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18kg). Must be able to attend Hemodialysis training in Edmonton or Red Deer. Travel expenses will be covered by Alberta Health Services as per the Travel, Hospitality, and Working Sessions Expenses – Approval, Reimbursement, and Disclosure Policy. Upon successful completion of the Hemodialysis training course in either Edmonton or Red Deer; pass mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during the clinical component is required to move onto buddy shifts. Unit specific orientation shifts will be assigned by the hiring manager. Required to attend 2-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post).
Minimum 1-2 years recent Med-Surgical Nursing experience. Recent acute and chronic Hemodialysis and or nephrology nursing experience. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated knowledge of case management.
