Policy Specialist

Position Summary

Responsible for providing support within the Strategic Policy, Planning and Analytics Department, this 12-month contract position will include supporting and implementing AIMS (Assurance and Improvement in Medication Safety) Program and supporting renewed governance.

What you’ll do at OCP                       

• Retrieve and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to drive evidence-informed operational and strategic decisions in a timely manner.
• Support the development of key performance indicators of the AIMS program and corresponding monitoring plan.
• Review emerging issues and trends that impact the AIMS program and provide policy advice on tight timelines.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to advance and support standardized medication safety practices.
• Support the policy team to establish College-specific actions related to governance reform, including:
  • Review and recommend changes to existing orientation and training programs for council and committee chairs.  
  • Establish effective evaluation and remediation programs for council and committee members to support improved committee competence and decision making
• Liaison with external counsel on governance and board competence issues.
• Recommend changes to the Council Governance manual, Rules of order & relevant by-laws
• Other duties as assigned by Manager, Strategic Policy, Planning & Analytics

What we’re looking for

• Ability to conduct policy analysis and research, including jurisdictional scans and development of briefing notes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to compile and prepare reports, briefing notes, and recommendations for internal and external use.
• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and problem solving.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills, executing multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently while working with conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with solid interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide excellent service to current and potential stakeholders
• Continuous learner
• Working knowledge of MS Office applications at an intermediate level is required

What experience we prefer

• Post-secondary degree in policy related field
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in a policy role
• Experience in a regulatory environment is an asset
• Knowledge of contemporary governance best practices in professional regulation is an asset
