Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking an experienced, focused, and dynamic leader for the role of Chief Program Officer - CancerControl Alberta. This key leadership role works in a dyad relationship with the Senior Medical Director (SMD), CancerControl Alberta. Together, the CPO and SMD will develop, establish and maintain the operational strategic plan for provincially-integrated Cancer Care services, ensuring optimal program delivery. Relationship management is essential to moving CancerControl to the high performing cancer system AHS strives for. The CPO/SMD dyad will also enrich strong, collaborative relationships between CancerControl and various stakeholders, including the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the Cancer Strategic Clinical Network, the Canadian Association of Provincial Cancer Agencies, and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. Job Description:


Reporting directly to the Vice President, CancerControl Alberta and Clinical Support Services, the CPO leads the effective oversight of programs, services and activities for the operations of Cancer Care, within the context of Alberta Health Services. In this role, you will effectively foster innovation within AHS through positive working relationships with senior executives, physicians, staff and other relevant partners on various initiatives. The successful candidate will bring a strong and experienced clinical voice to the senior leadership team, ensuring effective decision-making that is focused on improving patient- and family-centred care, along with achieving values-based business results. This role will require collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, fulfilling Cancer Care's clinical, research and educational goals. The CPO must be results-oriented and will have operational accountability for reviewing activity reports and financial statements in order to determine that progress and goals are achieved. You are adaptable in revising plans when required and have a strong understanding of costs and benefits in order to balance costs in accordance with financial realities and priorities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in health care management, business administration or a related health care field.
  • Minimum of five to ten years of experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or healthcare operations.
  • Familiarity with cancer services and experience in cancer care service delivery.
  • Experience leading regional or provincial clinical services or healthcare operations.
  • Experienced in visioning and developing strategic outlook and plans.
  • Leadership skills including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching with an ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.
  • A proven ability to engage and foster relationships and cooperation with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, customer-focused orientation and a commitment to providing quality service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience co-leading within a partnership with a medical leader.
