Chief Executive Officer

Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services (SSCHS) is an integrated healthcare provider, in the rural township of Chapleau located in Northern Ontario. The organization has 100 employees, 4 physicians and a budget of $11M. SSCHS is comprised of a 13 bed acute care General Hospital; a Nursing Station; a variety of Community Services, including adult mental health and addictions; a 23 unit apartment complex for seniors; and a 25-bed long-term care facility with 2 respite beds, 4 chronic care beds and 19 long-term care beds.

SSCHS is seeking their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will be accountable to the Board of Directors and will lead a talented and motivated team to deliver the best full spectrum care to rural Chapleau. With strong relationship building skills, creativity and an orientation for change, the new CEO will have the opportunity to have a large impact on this small organization. The incoming CEO will champion a capital investment and colocation opportunity which is currently underway in partnership with the Chapleau and District Family Health Team. They will continue strategic efforts with community partners to sustain seniors housing. And continue to look for and implement innovative funding and cost containment strategies. 

The Ideal CEO will possess:

  • A progressive track record of leadership in senior administration with a record of demonstrated achievements, ideally in a small hospital setting, alternatively complex and/or integrated organizations from the broader public sector; experience in LTC / clinical management would be an asset;
  • A Masters University degree from a recognized institution in a business or health care related discipline (MBA or MHA preferred) or a comparable background of education and experience; 
  • Experience working with and reporting to community boards. Experience as a past board member or chairperson involved in a hospital would be considered an asset;
  • A visible, collaborative, consultative, honest, approachable, respectful and empowering leadership style, with a preference for “management by walking around”;
  • Business expertise that includes finance, human resources management, legal, technology and/or procurement; ability to jump in and provide support in various portfolios / “wear many hats”;
  • Strong public relations skills and comfort level in a highly visible role in the community;
  • Demonstrated system integrated mindset in building excellent collaborative relations across system partners;
  • A change agent with strong emotional intelligence around the people aspects of change;
  • Experience exciting, motivating and challenging teams to innovate;
  • A strong systems orientation; commitment to quality, performance measurement and improvement and a demonstrated record of achievement in creating a culture of performance accountability;
  • Superior people leadership skills; demonstrated ability to attract, mentor and build a high performing team; the ability to think long-term and creatively about succession planning in a small organization;
  • Exceptional collaboration, team orientation, facilitation and problem solving skills;
  • Exemplary community and relationship building skills;
  • A reputation for holding people and him/herself accountable with the tenacity to follow through on objectives and commitments;
  • A “fit” with the unique northern community lifestyle and environment.
