Job Summary

As part of its growth and transformation, LHSC is now seeking an articulate, visionary Human Resources (“HR”) leader to join the organization as the Vice President (“VP”) of People & Culture.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer (“CPO”), the VP, People & Culture will take on a senior, strategic and high-profile role within the organization. Leveraging centralized “centres of excellence” and currently managing a team of four (4) Directors and nearly 200 indirect reports, the successful candidate will act as a critical business partner and trusted advisor to the CPO while providing strategic leadership, direction and oversight for the human capital and organizational development strategies.

The VP of People & Culture will consistently demonstrate strong business acumen and emotional intelligence, possess significant human resource functional knowledge, and will bring leadership, vision, creativity and passion in driving outcomes through industry-leading people strategies and practices.

The ideal candidate will be a system thinker and team player with a proven track record of aligning Human Resources and operating strategies. The VP, People & Culture will be charged with developing a comprehensive organizational People Strategy to align with the hospital’s new Strategic Plan, and with implementing relevant and impactful people practices for this innovative healthcare leader. 

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide strategic advice to the CPO and senior leadership team to address complex needs and issues, ensuring the human impacts of business decisions are factored into planning and decision-making
  • Provide strategic direction in the development and delivery of HR programs including organizational structure, labour and employee relations, recruitment, occupational health & safety, performance management, total compensation, training, succession, culture and engagement
  • Development and review of performance indicators to ensure programs are effective and meaningful
  • Ensuring resolution of the organization’s most complex and high risk people issues
  • Develop and implement an annual People and Culture agenda in alignment with the company’s business goals and plans
  • Support organizational change-management projects, communications, and transition plans
  • Intentionally build relational trust to drive strategic partnerships and ensure productive working relationships with stakeholders within the organization, region and province

Qualifications: Education, Years Of Experience

  • Masters degree in Human Resources, Public Policy, or other relevant field
  • CHRL designation or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of recent related experience in a unionized environment, including a minimum of five (5) years in a senior leadership capacity in a complex, highly-regulated, human resources environment, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Solid understanding of employment-related legislation related to governing employers in Ontario
  • Experience in program leadership relating to people, strategy, finance and resource utilization
  • In-depth development knowledge of organizational and HR, OD leading practices, policies, processes and evaluation tools
  • Experience in internal/external communications would be an asset
