Reporting to the Dean of Health, the Associate Dean provides broad academic leadership to a cluster of programs within the School of Health – including (but not limited to): Personal Support Worker; Practical Nursing; Practical Nursing with Aboriginal Communities; Bachelor of Science, Nursing (a McMaster/Mohawk/Conestoga consortium); PSW to RPN; RPN to BSc.N; and Canadian Health Care. Some of the programs offered have multiple intakes and are delivered at multiple campuses.
The Associate Dean must ensure that the objectives of the programs are attained through effective management of teaching and learning processes and performance measures. This includes managing compliance with federal, provincial and international regulatory bodies and legislation related to program delivery and development; facilitating the on-going review of existing courses and programs and the development of new programs to reflect market changes and the employment needs of industry.
The incumbent is expected to foster an environment where our values guide our actions and decisions, define our innovation culture and focus on students, staff and community. He/she must possess and demonstrate effective communication strategies to ensure exemplary school operations, is responsible for leading the development and implementation of student success, student development and career development initiatives and is accountable for Quality Assurance processes which may include measuring programs against standards set by external accreditation and regulatory bodies. The incumbent will also be expected to manage the ongoing operations of the department while ensuring fiscal responsibility.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Nursing, and will be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario. The candidate will have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience, with strong connections to the health care and social sector(s) and an understanding of emerging trends and issues. The incumbent will have a sound understanding of the challenges involved in the provision of relevant post-secondary education today and in the future as well as legislative and professional requirements and standards. Excellent leadership, strategic and analytical thinking, team-building, communications, interpersonal, organizational, project and time management skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities are required. The successful candidate will be committed to team decision making and operations management as well as to ensuring an environment of education and employment equity. The incumbent will demonstrate a commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
