Interim Director, Laboratory Services

Full-Time, Temporary (Approx. 2 years)
Owen Sound

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate and Diagnostic Services, CFO, the Director, Laboratory Services has operational accountability for staffing and departmental management of the laboratories of Grey Bruce Health Services.  The incumbent has leadership responsibility in the development, and implementation of high quality patient care systems/policies/ procedures and monitoring of Laboratory services.  Support of activities to achieve standards set by the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH) process is a key responsibility.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science Degree or other relevant degree
  • Current registration with the College of medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • CSMLS Certification
  • Minimum 5 year management and project management experience in a hospital setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to the development of professional practice, mentorship and life-long learning
  • Demonstrated experience with the principles and practice of Shared Leadership
  • Knowledge of Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare standards (IQMH formerly Ontario Laboratory Accreditation - OLA), LEAN processes and project management experience preferred
  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of Labour Relations in a unionized environment and hospital operations required
  • Understanding of and experience with workload measurement, staffing/scheduling and budgeting required
  • Strong participatory leadership and team building skills and highly developed organizational skills
  • Excellent abilities in both oral and written communication skills
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills with the ability to conceptualize and analyze problems
  • Excellent problem solving, decision-making, planning, evaluation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and effectively work with diversity in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple and competing priorities on a daily basis
  • Overall commitment to the quality of patient care as well as customer service
  • Available for regular assignment of Hospital Administrator on-call responsibilities (assigned on a rotating basis to cover evenings and weekends)
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviors (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
