This is a key role within the Medical Imaging Department of Canada’s largest research teaching hospital, in Toronto, ON, calling for the expertise and leadership of an experienced professional who is ready to support business needs and decision-making.

The University Health Network Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) aims to support and promote excellence and innovation in medical imaging patient care, research, and education. As the landscape of the health care system continues to evolve, the need for robust information management and analysis, planning, project management, and innovation is more important than ever. JDMI’s Business Intelligence group is leading the way by managing and implementing initiatives aimed at increasing access to care, enhancing patient safety, and improving efficiency of medical imaging services within the JDMI. As a Business Intelligence Specialist, this is where you want to be.

As part of the JDMI’s Business Intelligence Team, you will work with business and data analysts to provide Clinical, Management, Radiologist, and Senior Leadership teams with support for a variety of projects to meet the department's business and decision-making needs, with moderate management supervision.

Your principal responsibilities as a Business Intelligence Specialist will include:

  • gathering business requirements;
  • interpreting user needs;
  • addressing and investigating data quality concerns;
  • overseeing the production of performance indicator data, including data verification and reporting via business intelligence tools;
  • working with users and the BI Team in developing and enhancing new and existing reports and dashboards;
  • project work; and
  • ad hoc requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Business Intelligence Specialist we seek will have an impressive profile that includes the following highlights:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Health Administration, Engineering, Health Informatics, Information Sciences, or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in a related field, preferred
  • Five (5) years’ business intelligence and/or performance measurement experience in a health care setting
  • Supervisory/project management experience, with the ability to lead a small group of analysts on moderately complex projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the analysis and reporting of information using data from common health care decision support databases
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, translating and communicating data / information for user requirements
  • Capability of managing multiple, competing priorities and shifting focus rapidly in response to changing priorities in a calm, efficient manner
  • Experience working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools (i.e., Microsoft BI Stack, Cognos) and familiarity with T-SQL, preferred
  • Experience developing dashboards/scorecards/data quality reports, and handling ad hoc requests, preferred
  • Knowledge of external hospital reporting requirements (CCO, WTIS, OHRS/MIS guidelines, CIHI, HAPS/HAA, etc.), preferred
  • Knowledge of data quality management principles, theories, concepts, techniques, and best practices, preferred
  • Knowledge of Medical Imaging and/or Radiology Information System (RIS) / Picture Archive Communication Systems (PACS), an asset
  • Understanding of Lean / Six Sigma process improvement methodologies, an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (e.g., report writing, business case development, etc.), with the ability to communicate information/ideas so others will understand
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
